The weights were announced for the 2021 Melbourne Cup today and defending champion, Twilight Payment would have to shoulder top-weight if he were to take up his entry.

Joseph O'Brien's charge held on from the front to win the Melbourne Cup 12 months ago. Fresh off a runner-up finish in the Irish St Leger, he could return to Flemington for the Melbourne Cup, where he would be lumbered with 58kg.
Irish St Leger winner, Sonnyboyliston has also been allotted 58kg, but connection said today that he's unlikely to make the trip. Royal Ascot Gold Cup third and Yorkshire Cup runner-up, Spanish Mission is likely to take up his Melbourne Cup entry, and Andrew Balding's top stayer would have to carry 57kg.
The betting for the Melbourne Cup is currently headed by Incentivise, who was last seen winning the Makybe Diva Stakes. Peter Moody immediately pointed his five-year-old at Flemington, and Incentivise would have to carry 55.5kg.
Last year's Cox Plate winner, Sir Dragonet has been handed 57.5kg, with Caulfield Cup winner Verry Elleegant getting 57kg. Goodwood Cup runner-up, Away He Goes would have to shoulder 54.5kg, with another of Joseph O'Brien's dangerous raiders, Pondus set to carry 52.5kg.
