2018 Myer Classic Tips & Betting Predictions

The Myer Classic is one of the more open Group 1 races during the Melbourne Cup Carnival and there are many chances to win this year. With no runner at single-figure odds, punters are getting great value with every runner.

A race only for fillies and mares, the Myer Classic showcases just how strong this contingent are in Australia.

2018 Myer Classic Best Bet - Alizee

The James Cummings-trained mare is a winner of five from 14 starts and she has $1.4 million in stakes money. The majority of that was won when taking out the Group 1 Coolmore Legacy (Queen of the Turf) during The Championships and that form looks good for this.

A daughter of Sepoy, Alizee is bred to be winning at this level and although slightly inconsistent throughout her career, she performs best on the big stage and bookmakers are making it tough not to have a crack. 13.00 is on offer for Alizee to win and she will start much shorter in the market come race day.

2018 Myer Classic Best Each Way - Shoals

Shoals came of age as a three-year-old last season when taking out the Group 1 Surround Stakes and the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes. The Anthony Freedman-trained mare was also a winner of this race last year and she looks a top chance to go back-to-back.

The daughter of Fastnet Rock is a winner of seven from 10 starts and four of those have come at Group 1 level. She has won three of them and established herself as one of the top female thoroughbreds in Australia.

Her road to the Myer Classic might be a bit different this season but she must be included at 13.00.

2018 Myer Classic Best Roughie - Oohood

Oohood could have the most improvement between seasons in this field and she's due to break her maiden status soon. The Tony McEvoy-trained filly has placed in all six starts to date, with three of those coming at Group 1 level.

She finished third in the Blue Diamond Stakes before running second in the Golden Slipper and Sires' Produce. Those efforts were tremendous given that she has yet to win a race and although connections could target something easier for the win, she has won almost $1 million without crossing the line in first.

Improvement is expected and 26.00 is a great price.

Best Bet: Alizee @ 13.00
Best Each Way: Shoals @ 13.00
Best Roughie: Oohood @ 26.00
