2018 Caulfield Cup Tips & Betting Predictions

The Caulfield Cup is a time-honoured staying feature in Australia and although it often runs second fiddle to the Melbourne Cup, the race is historic in its own right.

Held every October at Caulfield in Melbourne, the Caulfield Cup provides punters with some of the best staying action in the world and bookmakers are giving good odds for most runners. Kings Will Dream is the only runner current at single-figure odds and he looks set for the riches.

2018 Caulfield Cup Best Bet - Kings Will Dream

Former French thoroughbred Kings Will Dream has only impressed since arriving in Australia and his unbeaten Australian career is looking more impressive by the day. He was a winner at Pontefrac before arriving at Darren Weir's stables in late 2017 and he has looked like a cups contender since.

The son of Casamento has won all five starts to date and that included a Listed Mornington Cup win by five lengths. He has yet to face any real competition but his form should be a good guide as he steps up in company during the Melbourne Spring Carnival.

His only run at 2400m was a scintillating victory and it's tough to see them making a case against Kings Will Dream at 8.50.

2018 Caulfield Cup Best Each Way - Johannes Vermeer

We're not sure if trainer Liam Howley plans on bringing Johannes Vermeer back to Australia but given his success last season, it would be a shame not to see the six-year-old back down under.

The well-performed son of Galileo didn't win in three Australian starts but he picked up some significant prize money and it wasn't hard to see just how impressive he is. He first ran second in the Caulfield Stakes before running third in the 2017 Caulfield Cup after not getting much luck in running.

He lost no admirers running second in the 2017 Melbourne Cup behind Rekindling and any form close to that will see him winning the Caulfield Cup this time around. 17.00 is a silly price from bookmakers and if Howley confirms his entry, expect those odds to firm in significantly.

2018 Caulfield Cup Best Roughie - Libran

81.00 is on offer for Libran and if the track comes up rain-affected, expect this Chris Waller-trained stayer to be in the mix.

The eight-year-old isn't getting any younger and his best form wouldn't typically be good enough to win the Caulfield Cup but he has shown glimpses of form on wet tracks and he was good enough to run eighth in the Melbourne Cup last year.

Don't count out his chances as a blowout type.

Best Bet: Kings Will Dream @ 8.50
Best Each Way: Johannes Vermeer @ 17.00
Best Roughie: Libran @ 81.00
