The Caulfield Guineas is one of the major age-group races of the Melbourne Spring Carnival and it runs for $2 million.

With some of the best three-year-olds in Australia, the Caulfield Guineas is a showcase of the most promising middle-distance thoroughbreds.

Punters love betting on the Caulfield Guineas for this very reason, but also because bookmakers offer great value odds.

We have done the form for the 2019 Caulfield Guineas to find our best bets for the mid-October feature.

2019 Caulfield Guineas Best Bet – Castelvecchio @ 13.00

Castelvecchio is one of the more promising young horses in Australia. The three-year-old colt won the Group 1 Champagne Stakes in fine style during the autumn and that form should stack up.

The 1.5-length win at Randwick came over a top field and the distance of 1600m was the turning point for the son of Dundeel.

He’s going to enjoy longer distances and could even have a crack at the Cox Plate over 2040m later in the carnival, but he should be well-suited to the Caulfield Guineas distance.

The only worry is that he gets back during the run and relies on his superior turn-of-foot. Therefore, if they race slowly up front, it will make it hard for him to catch up.

However, with an incredible ROI of 1598%, punters should trust Castelvecchio and stick with the quality colt.

2019 Caulfield Guineas Best Each Way – Prince Fawaz @ 13.00

We were very impressed with Prince Fawaz when winning the Group 1 J.J. Atkins last campaign and he’s another which will improve with time.

The three-year-old by Fastnet Rock is bred to be good and although he took some time to mature, he matured into a beautiful type for Anthony Cummings.

Much like the top pick, he’s bred to be better over the longer distances and winning a Group 1 over the mile is testament to that.

He is currently nominated for the Golden Rose, Caulfield Guineas and Cox Plate, so the sky’s the limit with this colt.

Punters have a good return on income with Prince Fawaz and if he handles going left-handed, he’ll be tough to beat at double-figure odds.

2019 Caulfield Cup Best Roughie – Super Seth @ 17.00

Super Seth is a little bit of a risky bet but he’s at value odds with bookmakers.

The Cummings-trained colt won his first two races in fine style. He scored by six lengths on debut before winning at Caulfield by a length.

However, he wasn’t able to remain unbeaten last start at Flemington but he did have excuses and he shouldn’t have lost too many admirers with that run.

It’s good to see some money coming for the son of Dundeel and that breeding should result in him getting the 1600m distance.

There are some concerns about his class at the Group 1 level but he’s worth the risk at the odds.

Sticking with the proven Group 1 winners is a good strategy for the Caulfield Guineas. Castelvecchio and Prince Fawaz have both been successful at the highest level and that’s a good asset to have.

Super Seth is an improver which could offer punters with some value.
