2018 Cox Plate Tips & Betting Predictions

The Cox Plate from 2015 to 2017 has been all about Winx and that's unlikely to change in 2018 as the champion mare shoots for her fourth consecutive win in the great race.

Considered as one of the best weight-for-age races in the world, the Cox Plate has been taken out by some of Australasia's best thoroughbreds and even Europe's Adelaide has scored a win, but the 2018 edition will be about Winx creating history and the fan-fare on track will be incredible.

Punters are actually getting good odds for the Chris Waller-trained mare, considering she won at odds of 1.10 in 2017.

2018 Cox Plate Tip - Winx

Winx is an incredible athlete and is currently the best horse in the world without question. The Chris Waller-trained runner has made easy work of her rivals for the last few seasons and with 28 wins from 35 starts and almost $19 million in the bank, it would take a brave punter to back against her.

Despite running at short odds throughout most of her career, punters are getting a 62.7 percent return on income and that should increase this October at Moonee Valley. Bookmakers have opened Winx at 1.50 in the markets and that's a steal at the moment. Her form this season will continue to impress and she will start much shorter on the day.

Back Winx at 1.50 and enjoy what should be an historic moment in world racing.

2018 Cox Plate Best Each Way - D'argento

It's unlikely that a Chris Waller-trained stablemate will upset the apple cart and beat Winx, but D'argento represents good each way value and he's a runner on the rise.

The four-year-old had a stellar season when last in work, which included a win in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas before running a credible fourth in the Doncaster Mile during The Championships. That kind of form should impress punters and he's only going to improve with time.

A stud career looms for the son of So You Think but his sire scored a win in the Cox Plate and he could be the next superstar colt to have success at Moonee Valley.

2018 Cox Plate Best Place Chance - Happy Clapper

Trainer Patrick Webster has confirmed that Happy Clapper will be focusing on the Cox Plate this season and that's good news for place punters. The seven-year-old has been running well throughout his career and the son of Teofilo finally scored a Group 1 win in the Doncaster Mile.

Form out of that race should stack up nicely and the 21.00 on offer is value for punters.

Best Bet: Winx @ 1.50
Best Each Way: D'argento @ 17.00
Best Place Tip: Happy Clapper @ 21.00
