The 2019 Moir Stakes promises to be a hotly-contested sprint at Moonee Valley and we’ve done the form to find all the winning bets.

Nominations have yet to come out, but punters can still invest in the all-in markets.

Nature Strip heads the betting after some moves were made during the week, but Group 1-winning mare Sunlight and two-time Everest winner Redzel are hot on his heels.

The 1000m contest is always one of the more exciting races during the Melbourne Spring Carnival and we’re excited for the night racing feature at The Valley.

2019 Moir Stakes Best Bet – Sunlight @ 4.00

Sunlight oozes class and with a record of 10 wins from 16 starts, she deserves to be favourite for the 2019 Moir Stakes.

The Tony McEvoy-trained star has won over $4.3 million with wins coming in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap, Group 1 William Reid Stakes and Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Winning the William Reid Stakes at The Valley is a big help for the Moir Stakes and although 1000m is slightly short of her best, she’s more than capable of handling it.

The daughter of Zoustar is one of the more progressive thoroughbreds in Australia and we’re confident she’ll give punters a good sight at the odds.

2019 Moir Stakes Best Each Way – Eduardo @ 13.00

There is good value with Eduardo in the Moir Stakes market and he’s worth playing.

The five-year-old gelding has had eight starts for three wins and four placings, which includes a third placing in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield.

It’s surprising to see that he hasn’t yet run at Moonee Valley – a track that will help his front-running tactics. He likes to lead and that’s a big asset around this tight-turning circuit.

He doesn’t have the high-profile connections that some of the other Moir Stakes runners have, but punters are getting better odds because of it.

Trained by Sarah Zschoke, the son of Host has a good campaign ahead of him and could cause an upset.

His RIO of 78.8% is a testament to his consistency at the top levels.

2019 Moir Stakes Best Roughie – Despatch @ 15.00

Despatch is in for a good 2019/2020 season. The McEvoy-trained gelding is approaching $1 million in earnings after winning the Group 1 Goodwood last season.

The four-year-old didn’t fire in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap following that win but he had some excuses and he looks better-suited to racing left-handed.

He’s a winner of seven from 12 starts and he could well go under the radar for the Moir Stakes.

Take the 15.00 on offer as he’ll start shorter come race night.

Sunlight looks the standout bet in the 2019 Moir Stakes. She is a professional winner with experience at Moonee Valley and that’s a big asset.

Eduardo and Despatch should be added for some value and act as a cover bet for the favourite.
