The Thousand Guineas is the feature middle-distance race for the fillies and it runs during the Melbourne Spring Carnival.

Some of Australia’s best fillies have taken out the Thousand Guineas and although it’s worth only $500,000, it’s still a highly-sought after prize.

The 2019 field is packed with quality types and bookmakers are being generous with their odds. Every runner, at this stage of writing, is quoted at double-figure odds.

With the race approaching, that’s great value from bookmakers and we have done the form to find our best 2019 Thousand Guineas tips.

2019 Thousand Guineas Best Bet – Funstar @ 15.00

Chris Waller has another nice type on his hands with Funstar. The unbeaten filly scored by over three lengths on debut before winning again at Randwick.

She defeated a good field last time out and it showed she’s able to handle the wet track conditions.

Melbourne during the spring can often produce a wet track, so that’s a good asset to have.

She’s a filly by Adelaide which won over longer distances and there’s plenty of hype surrounding Funstar, which is related to talented type Youngstar.

She’s also nominated for the likes of the Cox Plate, which is always a good sign from the major stables.
15.00 is a great price from bookmakers and it’s worth taking.

2019 Thousand Guineas Best Each Way – Kiamichi @ 17.00

Kiamichi has the class factor coming into this race having won the Group 1 Golden Slipper during the autumn.

The James Cummings-trained three-year-old has three wins from seven starts and although all three came at Rosehill, she looks to have ability on all tracks.

She’s a daughter of Sidestep which has an ROI of 678.6% and loyal punters will likely follow her for the Thousand Guineas. That could drop her price, so it’s best to take the 17.00 on offer now.

Her odds will only continue to drop as the spring carnival approaches.

2019 Thousand Guineas Best Roughie – Ready Set Sail @ 26.00

The Mick Price-trained three-year-old is a roughie chance at taking out the Thousand Guineas.

She’s a daughter of More Than Ready which finished fourth on debut at Sale before winning the Group 3 Breeders’ Plate at Flemington. That win came over the likes of Flit and Talented, which are good horses on their own right.

Running against her own sex is only going to help and she might go under the punters’ radar throughout the betting.

She has already shown her ability to sprint from the back of the field and that’s handy to have when trying to win the Thousand Guineas over 1600m.

Verdict

Funstar looks to have the most scope to take out the Thousand Guineas. Chris Waller knows what makes a Group 1-winning filly.

Kiamichi is the Slipper winner with class on her side and Ready Set Sail could add some value.
