Having claimed Group One glory in France and America last season, Modern Games won his first UK Group One at Newbury this afternoon. Charlie Appleby's star stormed home under William Buick to win the Lockinge Stakes, beating Chindit - who tried to bite the winner as he came through - into second.

Following the Group One feature at Newbury, Charlie Appleby said that the plan was to go onto the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot, for which Modern Games is now the 10/3 favourite with bet365.

Modern Games' stablemate, Noble Style was turned over at a short price in Saturday's opener, as Shaquille won the Caernarfon Stakes. Ralph Beckett's Haskoy made a winning return to action in the Al Rayyan Stakes and was immediately cut into 8/1 fourth-favouritism for the Royal Ascot Gold Cup.

Aidan O'Brien entered the winners' enclosure at Newbury on Saturday, after Bertinelli's victory in the London Gold Cup. O'Brien then sealed a double on the day, as Warm Heart held off favourite Bluestocking to win the Haras De Bouquetot Fillies' Trial Stakes.

Roger Teal and Oisin Murphy combined to claim a surprise victory in the BetVictor Handicap with 22/1 outsider Bear Force One.
