Gamaret, Blenkinsop and Grumpy Charley also claimed ITV victories

Torrential rain meant that 14 runners were taken out of their races at Newbury today. Just two came out of the Challow Hurdle, and it was hot-favourite Hermes Allen who continued his rise to the top of the novice ranks with an effortless Grade One victory.

On the back of that exceptional victory, Paul Nicholls' star was cut into 3/1 to win the 2023 Ballymore Novices' Hurdle by Unibet.

Venetia Williams' Gamaret made a winning chase debut in the Hallowe'En Trophy. Chris Honour and his team then celebrated as Grumpy Charley bounced back to winning ways in the Mandarin Handicap Chase.

Blenkinsop then extended his winning streak into a fourth race, as Henry Daly's charge ran away with the two-and-a-half mile handicap hurdle. Tea For Free then completed his own four-timer, striking in the card-closing handicap chase under Lilly Pinchin.

Nicky Henderson accounted for several non-runners on Saturday, and he would have been wishing he'd withdrawn Jet Powered, who was turned over at a short-price by Gary Moore's juvenile Jupiter Du Gite. Andrew and James Martin had earlier struck in the opening, as Midnight Ginger claimed victory in the Mares' Handicap Hurdle.
