The Cotswold Chase is the first of three Grade Two races to be staged at Cheltenham on Festival Trials day. This key Gold Cup trial was first staged back in 1980 and greats like Little Owl, Master Oats and Looks Like Trouble all completed the Trials Day, Festival double during their careers.

2025 Cotswold House Chase Entries

Heading the betting for Saturday's feature is L'Homme Presse, who placed third in the King George on his reappearance. Venetia Williams' ten-year-old has plenty of Cheltenham form, having won the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase in 2022 and finished fourth in the 2024 Gold Cup.

Gentlemansgame was pulled up in last year's Gold Cup, but returns to Cheltenham on the back of a third-place finish in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown. Two-time Cross Country hero, Delta Work will also fly the flag for Ireland on Saturday.

JP McManus' colours will be carried into battle by Chantry House, who won this race in 2022 and ended his long losing streak with a recent handicap win here at Cheltenham. Paul Nicholls looks set to run former Turners' Novices' Chase winner Stage Star, who will step up beyond three miles for the first time this weekend. Seamus Mullins' Tommy Beau rounds off the field.

2025 Cotswold Chase Tips

This looks to be a straight shoot-out between the top two in the market. Chantry House's recent handicap win was brilliant to watch, but this is a big step up in class for Nicky Henderson's ten-year-old. I'm not convinced that Stage Star really wants a test of stamina. Delta Work is running to try and get his handicap mark down and Tommy Beau is here for the prize money.

I thought Gentlemansgame's run at Leopardstown over Christmas was superb. Mouse Morris' star hadn't been seen since a five-length defeat in the Punchestown Gold Cup and tried to keep tabs with Galopin Des Champs. He and Fact To File eventually pulled clear of the pack, but Gentlemansgame kept on well to place third and was even pulling away from Heart Wood and Inothewayurthinkin in the closing stages.

That run in the Savills Chase is the best piece of form on offer. However, Gentlemansgame didn't seem to enjoy Cheltenham when pulled up in last season's Gold Cup and Morris' raider has to give six pounds to L'HOMME PRESSE (5/4).

An impressive winner of the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase in 2022, Venetia Williams' star chaser won the Rehearsal Chase and the Fleur De Lys on his last two seasonal reappearances. Charlie Deutsch's mount was put away from the rest of the 2022/23 season after that last fall in the King George, and followed last year's win at Lingfield with a runner-up effort in the Ascot Chase, before a fourth-place finish in the Gold Cup.

L'Homme Presse returned to King George for his reappearance this term and ran a lovely race, coming out of the chasing pack late on to finish third behind Banbridge and Il Est Francais. Williams' horses seem to be coming back into form and L'Homme Presse boasts an excellent record around Cheltenham. This race looks to be his for the taking.
