Friday's Racing Tips - Friday 17th September

Race 1 - Harry Rosebery Stakes Tips

CANONIZED has enjoyed a productive juvenile campaign. William Haggas' filly has been out eight times already this term, winning three times while also placing in two Listed races.

Tom Marquand was forced wide to make his challenge in the St Hugh Stakes and came up two lengths short. In the Prix d'Arenberg last time out, Canonized travelled sweetly off the pace, but was beaten to a gap by Illustrating. By the time she hit open air, the race was lost and she could only stay on for fourth.

This is a very competitive Listed contest, and I'm sure both Project Dante and Geocentric will attract support. But Canonized's seasonal form is as solid as anyone's in here, and she appeals in the each-way market.

Race 2 - Arran Scottish Sprint Stakes Tips

TERESA MENDOZA is still searching for her first win of the season, but Ken Condon's raider has been running into some very good sprinters at home in Ireland.

Condon's filly has placed behind both Romantic Proposal and Measure Of Magic, the one-two from last weekend's Group One Flying Five Stakes. She was third behind Diamond Jubilee Stakes sixth Sonaiyla, third behind Wren's Breath at Naas, and then fourth as Gustavus Weston romped home in the Phoenix Sprint last time out.

Billy Lee's filly travelled as well as anyone that day, but didn't quite pick up once a gap to the line opened up. This is a clear drop in class to what she's become accustomed to and I think this slightly shorter five-and-a-half furlong trip will suit. She's another solid each-way play.

Race 3 - Free Cup Stakes Tips

Al Suhail is the clear selection on ratings, but I'm still not convinced that Charlie Appleby's charge really wants to be running over seven furlongs. Instead, I'm going to side with another Irish raider and back ACE AUSSIE, again each-way.

Jessica Harrington's three-year-old kicked off this season with a fine runner-up finish behind Poetic Flare in the 2000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown. Ace Aussie then finished third over a mile in the Amethyst Stakes, and was fifth last time out as Order Of Australia won the Minstrel Stakes.

On both occasions, Shane Foley's mount hung left in the closing stages, and markedly so at the Curragh, which was the contributing factor behind that five-length defeat. Harrington has fitted a tongue-tie for the first time and booked David Egan for the ride. If Egan can keep his mount on the straight and narrow, then Ace Aussie has shown enough this season to suggest he can win races at this level.
