The first Irish Classics of the season will take place this weekend. Saturday's card is headlined by the Irish 2000 Guineas, a race that has been won by legends like Grundy, Dubawi and Kingman during its 100-year history.

Here's our guide to the 2025 Irish 2000 Guineas, including our best betting tips.

2025 Irish 2000 Guineas Entries

Under a surprisingly patient ride by Kieran Shoemark, Field Of Gold was beaten into second by Ruling Court in the British 2000 Guineas earlier this month. John & Thady Gosden sacked Shoemark as their retained jockey on the back of that defeat and Field Of Gold will have a new rider when he carries the tag of favouritism into this Classic.

Expanded runs in his second Classic of the season, having finished a distant ninth in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. Ryan Moore, who rode Expanded that day, has this time opted to ride Officer, who will aim to follow in the footsteps of former stablemate Paddington following his recent victory in the Tetrach Stakes.

Harry Charlton sends the unbeaten Cosmic Year over to Ireland for his first Group One assignment. Jessica Harrington will be represented by Hotazhell, who was withdrawn from the French Guineas at Longchamp. Paddy Twomey looks likely to run Currawood, who finished second to Officer in the Tetrach on his most recent run.

Like Expanded, Scorthy Champ will be aiming to bounce back after a poor effort in the British version of this Classic. Brian Meehan sends Greenham Stakes runner-up, Rashabar over to Ireland for the first time. Andrew Balding's Windlord and Comanche Brave for Donnacha O'Brien complete the line-up.

2025 Irish 2000 Guineas Tips

The last two British winners of this Classic both scored at the Curragh following runner-up efforts at Newmarket. Field Of Gold will attempt to follow in their footsteps, and John Gosden has already confirmed that the world-class Colin Keane will take the ride on his raider.

The rest of the field will have to step up markedly to match the favourite's level of seasonal form. A reproduction of either of Field Of Gold's performances at Newmarket this term could be enough. Yet, there are several entrants who are capable of further improvement.

Cosmic Year is the obvious challenger and Officer has the makings of a big improver. Hotazhell could go well and neither Expanded nor Scorthy Champ can be ruled out, despite fairly limp performances at Newmarket.

COMANCHE BRAVE (50/1) interests me at a massive price. Donnacha O'Brien's youngster won well at Cork in September, before seemingly struggling around a turn at both Dundalk and Leopardstown on his final two juvenile starts.

Gavin Ryan's mount was much more composed on his reappearance in the Red Rocks at Leopardstown. Comanche Brave handled the bend well and looked to be mounting a potentially winning challenge, until Henri Matisse found his stride late on and claimed a half-length victory.

Henri Hatisse has since gone on and landed the French 2000 Guineas, while third-placed Arizona Blaze ran away with a French Group Three on his very next start. Comanche Brave is by a top sire in Wootton Bassett and his damn placed second in the Irish 1000 Guineas before winning the Jersey Stakes on her final career start. O'Brien's colt is bred to be a top miler and, with the form of his reappearance franked, he looks to be overpriced.

Verdict

Comanche Brave went close behind a subsequent Classic winner on his reappearance, and if bred to be at his most effective over this trip. 50/1 looks like a massive price to me.
