Sadly, Cheltenham's card on New Year's Day has fallen foul to the weather gods. ITV organisers have moved quickly to plug the gap, and racing fans will be treated to seven live races from England, Scotland and even Ireland.

Let's jump straight into our best betting tips in Friday's ITV races.

ITV Racing Tips - Friday 1st January

Race 1 - Betway Handicap Hurdle Tips

NEWTOWN BOY finished fourth in last year's renewal of the Hogmaneigh Handicap here at Musselburgh. After dropping down to a mark of 122, Keith Dalgleish's charge claimed an over due victory over course-and-distance, carrying 12-2 to victory in convincing fashion.

Dalgleish's eight-year-old is back up to an official mark of 128, but that's still a pound short of his career-high handicap mark, and Danny McMenamin's claimer means he carries just 11-00 into battle here. Newtown Boy looks a solid each-way option.

Race 2 - Mares' Handicap Hurdle Tips

You can see why handicap debutante, Pure Bliss is the favourite. I, however, think fellow course-and-distance winner, MISTY BLOOM is much better off at the weights, and makes the strongest case for selection.

Emma Lavelle's eight-year-old ran well on her first-ever start on heavy ground at Sandown, staying on to place third behind Emmpressive Lady. The handicapper has dropped Misty Bloom another pound down the handicap, and Ben Jones' three-pound claimer will come in handy too.

Angus Cheleda has won on both his rides for Paul Nicholls over the Christmas period, and he has an excellent chance of making it a hat-trick with MIRANDA.

Cheleda was in Miranda's saddle when the pair won at Ludlow, on ground which was probably firmer than ideal. Paul Nicholls boasts a near 50% strike rate around this track in the last five years, and Young Angus is very good value for his seven-pound claimer. I'm surprised Miranda isn't the clear favourite.

Race 4 - Novices' Limited Handicap Chase Tips

With those ahead of him in the market looking vulnerable, I'm going to take a chance on CHOOSEYOURWEAPON. Evan William's eight-year-old returned from a two-and-a-half-year absence in a hot Intermediate Chase at Chepstow. Adam Wedge's mount jumped well, but couldn't keep up with horses rated between 135 and 140 over two miles, and was pulled up well before the end.

This looks a much easier race, and Chooseyourweapon will love the ground, having won twice on heavy over hurdles. If he's come on between runs, then he certainly has the quality to win this sort of handicap.

Race 5 - Savills New Year's Day Chase Tips

Willie Mullins said at Leopardstown that this race would be harder for AL BOUM PHOTO than the previous two. I can't see how, as the field this time around is weaker than the two renewals he's won. It will be brilliant to see the dual Gold Cup winner back on the track, but this is a no-bet sort of race.

ASK ME EARLY looked ripe for the picking entering the home straight on his chase debut at Chepstow. Thomas McDonagh and Lord Napier loomed up, but Harry Fry's grey found loads for pressure, and even pulled five-lengths clear on the run to the line.

Sean Bowen's mount will have to carry 11-11 here, but there are only eight pounds separating seven of the eight runners, so I don't think the weight will make much of a difference. This looks an excellent opportunity to make it two wins in a row over fences.

Race 7 - Auld Reekie Handicap Chase Tips

The top ten runners in this year's Auld Reekie can currently be found between 11/2 and 10/1, which indicates that the bookies have no idea who's going to win. The one who appeals most to me, though, is COOL MIX, who finished third behind this year's Old Roan winner Nuts Well in this race 12 months ago.

Iain Jardine's nine-year-old has been in great form this season, beating the well-handicapped Sky Pirate at Wetherby before two third-place finishes. Cool Mix stayed on well after getting hampered to finish third in the Rehearsal Chase, and he looks well-handicapped on his return to Musselburgh.
