Let's dive straight into our ITV Racing tips on day one of the Ebor Festival.

Ebor Festival Day One Tips - Wednesday 17th August

Race 1 - Sky Bet And Symphony Group Handicap Tips

What better way to kick off another fantastic card at York than with a wide-open sprint handicap. A decent case can be made for the majority of the 22 runners and the bookies are finding it difficult to split them.

SUNDAY SOVEREIGN looked to have claimed his first victory of the season here at York in May, only for Illusionist to swoop past him in the dying strides. Tim Easterby's five-year-old returned after a short break with a solid effort at Musselburgh three weeks ago and the handicapper has dropped his mark back down to 94, the same mark Sunday Sovereign carried into his last outing in the Knavesmire.

Race 2 - Acomb Stakes Tips

LOCAL DYNASTY made a lasting impression when winning on debut at Newmarket 12 days ago. Charlie Appleby's colt got loose before the race and travelled keenly in the early stages. Once James Doyle's mount hit the front, however, Local Dynasty put that race to bed in a matter of strides and coasted home a three-and-a-half-length winner.

Local Dynasty is by Dubawi and out of a Shamardal mare who reached a mark of 103 during her short career. Appleby and William Buick will be the partnership to follow at York this week and Local Dynasty could be very hard to beat in the Acomb.

Race 3 - Great Voltigeur Stakes Tips

Appleby, once again, plays a strong hand in this Group Two, with Secret State and Walk Of Stars both boasting winning claims. Aikhal is greatly respected for Ryan Moore and Aidan O'Brien. The ultra-consistent Deauville Legend cannot be ruled out either.

Consistent isn't the word you'd use to describe GRAND ALLIANCE, who's run stinkers in both the Epsom Derby and the Gordon Stakes last time out. Charlie Fellowes' colt did run well in the Blue Riband Trial at Epsom in April and would have beaten Changingoftheguard at Royal Ascot, had he not hung violently left late on.

Fellowes has added cheek-pieces for the first time today and, if they have the desired effect, then Grand Alliance could look wildly overpriced.

Race 5 - Stayers Handicap Tips

The presence of 109-rated Thunderous leaves plenty of classy stayers carrying appealing weights into this handicap. One of those is the old boy RED VERDON, who's dropped seven pounds down the handicap since the start of the season.

Ed Dunlop's stalwart, who won a Group Three here at York in 2020, has run very well under welter burdens on his last two handicap starts. Red Verdon will only have 9-00 to carry on Wednesday and I wouldn't be surprised to see Tom Marquand's mount involved in the business end of things.
