ITV Racing Tips - Thursday 19th August

Race 1 - Lowther Stakes Tips

Sandrine has enjoyed a faultless juvenile campaign thus far, scoring victories over both Hello You and Desert Dreamer in the Albany and the Duchess Of Cambridge. Andrew Balding's filly could be too strong again, but she does have a three-pound penalty to contend with, so I'd rather take an each-way punt on ILLUSTRATING, who was super impressive when winning at Goodwood last time out.

Karl Burke's filly won first time out, and ran on with credit to finish seventh in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot. Danny Tudhope's mount was heavily backed heading into the Conditions Stakes on day one at Goodwood, and Illustrating ran out a ready winner, powering through the line to secure a three-length success.

This will be her first start over six furlongs, but she's out of a former Coronation Stakes winner in Maids Causeway and Showcasing's progeny often improve for the step up to six furlongs. 7/1 remains a decent each-way price.

Race 2 - Premier Yearling Stakes Tips

Richard Hannon has farmed this competitive race in recent years, winning four of the last five renewals. The best of his four entrants has to be SYSTEM, who's already landed a Listed prize this season.

Following that win over Desert Dreamer in the Empress Fillies' Stakes, System finished fifth in the Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot, where she was hampered in the closing stages. She brings the most solid form to the table and I think you have to back the market leader.
I'm also going to back WINGS OF WAR, who scored an excellent victory on his second career start at Nottingham.

Following an encouraging performance on debut, Clive Cox's juvenile made all to win by over two lengths a month ago. The third that day, Jazz Club bolted up at Windsor earlier this week, and he was made to look very ordinary by Adam Kirby's mount. He'll be my second selection against this large field.

Race 3 - Clipper Logistics Handicap Tips

I'm going to fire a couple of arrows at this big prize, the first being FAME AND ACCLAIM, who's run a couple of crackers under top-weight on his last two starts for Les Eyre.

Eyre's recruit hung on for third behind La Trinidad here at York in July, before filling the same position over seven furlongs at Newmarket last time out. Hollie Doyle's mount has placed in four lucrative handicaps under weights between 9-8 and 9-13, so he'll feel as light as a feather with just 9-5 to shoulder today.
IRISH ADMIRAL is the other runner who captures my imagination. William Haggas' charge ran an excellent race here at York in May, clocking an RPR of 103 when third behind Surrey Pride in a ten-furlong handicap.

William Buick's mount couldn't repeat that performance at Epsom or in the Royal Hunt Cup. Last time out though, Irish Admiral produced a much more competitive display, going down by two lengths behind Accidental Agents in a high-quality handicap at Newmarket. Haggas' four-year-old has been dropped a pound for that effort, and could be a big player with just 9-00 on his back.

Bonus Tip - Race 6 - Galtres Stakes Tips

Three-year-olds have been dominant in this Listed race, winning all of the last ten renewals. In fact, only five horses older than three have won since this contest was introduced in 1988.

With that in mind, I'm going to keep faith with The Queen's runner PORTFOLIO, who was my selection in the Chalice Stakes 19 days ago. Richard Kingscote's mount travelled kindly behind the leaders. When push came to shove, Portfolio didn't initially find much, but found her stride late on to finish an eye-catching third.

I think Sir Michael Stoute's filly got a little lonely that day. Nothing on her side of the track was able to go with her, and she picked up again when shifted over to try and latch onto the leaders. Portfolio remains a progressive horse, and Ryan Moore jumps into the saddle.
