One of the world's most famous sporting events will take place on Saturday, as 17 of the sport's best colts do battle in the 2022 Epsom Derby. Before we reach Saturday's Classic highlight, ITV viewers have two pattern races and the thrilling Epsom Dash handicap to sink their teeth into.

Race 1 - Cazoo Handicap Tips

There are plenty of possible pacesetters in Saturday's opener, so stamina could be the order of the day. The one who appeals to me the most is BOX TO BOX, who made a winning start to life under Hugo Palmer at Salisbury.

This son of Kodiac progressed nicely last season, placing in two strongly-run handicaps during November. On his reappearance, Box To Box traveled comfortably alongside a keen-going front-runner and kept on well to claim a cosy one-length victory.

Harry Davies claimer means that Palmer's three-year-old is effectively running off a two-pound lower mark today. 11/1 looks like a nice each way price.

Race 2 - Princess Elizabeth Stakes Tips

The leading contenders in this Group Three are devilishly hard to separate and I can't see anyone outside the top four or five getting involved. At the prices, I thought ROMAN MIST - who held off Potapova and a future Listed winner in My Astra to win the Snowdrop last time out - offered the most value, so I'll have a small each way punt on Tom Ward's runner at 7/1.

Race 3 - Diomed Stakes Tips

It's very hard to look beyond MODERN NEWS, who brings by far the best seasonal form to the table. Charlie Appleby's star carried 9-9 to victory in the Spring Cup on his reappearance, and followed up with an effortless Listed win at Windsor last month.

William Buick's mount is a confirmed stayer over this trip and boasts valuable course form having finished second in the 2020 renewal of the Woodcote Stakes. I wouldn't be surprised if Modern News was running in Group One races before the end of the season.

Race 4 - Epsom Dash Tips

I never invest too heavily in the Dash, as I find it incredibly hard to predict. I do, however, fancy a punt on THEGREATESTSHOWMAN, after track-specialist Silvestre De Sousa was confirmed in the saddle.

Amy Murphy's mount ran a lovely race when second to Motaatil here at Epsom on his reappearance. Thegreatestshowman will enter this race running off a one-pound lower mark and De Sousa will be pleased with a high drawn up in stall 15.
