Glorious Goodwood Day Three Tips - Thursday 28th July

Race 1 - Kincsem Handicap Tips

After two narrow victories in ten-furlong novice contests, WARREN POINT was handed a tricky little assignment on his handicap debut.

Charlie Appleby's colt faced off against stablemate Wild Crusade and London Gold Cup runner-up, Israr in a three-runners race over 12 furlongs at Ascot. Tom Marquand's mount pulled very hard during the early stages, but was still in there pitching at the furlong pole, only for Wild Crusade's stamina to pull the him clear in the closing stages.

That was still an encouraging first outing in a handicap for Warren Point and the handicapper has only upped his mark by a pound to 95. Despite the red cap, William Buick has chosen him out of Appleby's trio and a strong showing from Warren Point is expected.

Race 2 - Richmond Stakes Tips

ROYAL SCOTSMAN looked a like star in the making as he strode clear to win a maiden here at Goodwood racecourse in May. Paul and Oliver Cole's colt then did his reputation no harm at Royal Ascot, staying on well to place third in the Coventry Stakes behind Bradsell.

The form of the Coventry has been boosted since then, with second-placed Persian Force and fourth-placed Blackbeard both winning Group Two's of their own. Royal Scotsman can further enhance the form of that Royal Ascot race on Thursday.

Race 3 - Gordon Stakes Tips

On ratings, Hoo Ya Mal is a long way clear of the field. Stall one, however, can often be a problem for hold-up horses around Goodwood and a first-time tongue tie is an interesting addition on the back of a runner-up finish in the Derby.

I like NEW LONDON. I think he's extremely progressive. Charlie Appleby's charge looked all at sea on soft ground at Chester, where Changingoftheguard ground him into submission. That performance is easily forgiven, considering it was just his third start and Changingoftheguard went on to win at Royal Ascot.

William Buick's mount bounced back with an effortless handicap triumph at the July Festival and this step back up in trip should really suit.

Race 4 - Nassau Stakes Tips

Race 5 - Nursery Handicap Tips

It's very hard to have a confident fancy in a race as open as this. Nursery handicaps are notoriously difficult to predict. DAYYAN ran well when only beaten a length behind Blatant and Far Shot at Ascot last time out and both his sire and dam won over seven furlongs. He could be a decent value option at 20/1, but I won't be having a large bet.

Race 6 - World Pool Handicap Tips

Another incredibly open handicap to end the ITV action on day three. I'll take a chance on another 20/1 shot, SOPHIE'S STAR, who beat rival Le Beau Garcon in a handicap at Musselburgh in June.

Roger Fell's filly was then only beaten by three-quarters of a length when fourth in a Listed contest at Ayr. Jonny Peate's mount didn't stay six furlongs at Chester last time out, where a wide draw didn't help her cause. If she can get forward quickly and grab the stand's rail from stall 13, Sophie's Star could hit the frame.
