The first Group One of the season for older horses takes place on Saturday, as a field of talented milers does battle in the Lockinge Stakes. ITV viewers will enjoy four excellent races live from Newbury on Lockinge day, while also heading to Newmarket for three strong races on the Rowley Mile.

Race 1 - Carnarvon Stakes Tips

Unlike the rest of the field, neither NOBLE STYLE nor Aesop's Fables would be out of place in the Commonwealth Cup and I expect the former of the two to head to Ascot on the back of a victory.

Having looked like a natural sprinter at two, Noble Style did very well to finish sixth on his reappearance in the 2000 Guineas. Charlie Appleby's decision to drop his colt back down to six furlongs won't come as a surprise to anyone and Noble Style should be very difficult to beat.

Race 2 - Aspall Cyder 1728 Handicap Tips

Having progressed with each of her juvenile starts, CEANNA returns to action as a three-year-old with plenty of scope for further improvement.

The Gosden's filly was slowly away on debut at Kempton, and then didn't get the run of the race on her second start behind Embrace at Wolverhampton. Ceanna powered to victory on her final start in 2022, beating several future winners with ease. This opening mark of 79 looks there to be exploited.

Race 3 - Al Rayyan Stakes Tips

This really is a fantastic renewal of the Al Rayyan Stakes. Chances can be given to the entire field, even Bolshoi Ballet and Old Harrovian at the bottom of the market cannot be ruled out.

Haskoy was my selection in the St Leger, where inexperience cost Ralph Beckett's talented filly the chance to contend. If I was to back one, it would probably be Frankie Dettori's mount, but it's more likely I'll end up taking a watching brief.

Race 4 - Aspall Suffolk Draught Cyder Handicap Tips

While he was no match for Shaquille, Kevin Ryan will have been very pleased with WASHINGTON HEIGHT'S effort here at Newmarket last time - on what was his first start south of Yorkshire.

Ryan's colt bounced back from a disappointing reappearance run with a fine effort to finish second, where he seemed to be doing his best work on the uphill run to the line. David Probert's mount showed some solid form at two and that performance last time out matched Washington Heights' career-best RPR. Off just a one-pound higher mark, he can contend once again.

Race 5 - London Gold Cup Tips

This race has become notorious for producing high-class horses. Seven of the last ten winners have gone on to win pattern races, including Cannock Chase, Defoe and Bay Bridge, who all scored at the highest level.

Winners have often been well-found in the betting, with only two of the last ten going off at double-figure prices. That being said, I fancy an each-way punt on HAVE SECRET, who'll be ridden by Andrea Atzeni.

Richard Fahey ran this son of Havana Gold seven times as a juvenile. Have Secret saved his best performance for his final two-year-old start at Nottingham, where Fahey's star was heavily eased in the closing stages and still won by over three lengths. Have Secret has been gelded since that run and both his experience and proven stamina over this distance could help him outrun those odds.

Race 6 - Aspall Premier Cru Handicap Tips

Charlie Appleby's record on the Rowley Mile is very strong and he accounts for the top two in the market for this handicap. STRIKING STAR made a lovely impression when winning on debut at Sandown last time out, but flopped on his final juvenile start in the Horris Hill at Newbury.

Striking Star then bumped into Theoryofeverything on his reappearance at Doncaster, where Appleby's runner was carrying a seven-pound penalty. Yacowlef proved slightly too strong as Striking Star finished second on his handicap debut here at the Guineas Festival, but that was still an excellent run and Adam Kirby's mount is worth siding with on better ground.
