ITV Tips on May 5th
The 2023 Guineas Festival kicks off on Friday and attendees have got two Group Two races to enjoy on day one. Along with five races from Newmarket, ITV Racing viewers will head over to Goodwood for three competitive contests.

ITV Racing Tips - Friday 5th May
Race 1 - Newmarket Stakes Tips
The day before Prince Charles III is crowned at Westminster Abbey, the Royal family could celebrate a Listed winner if CIRCLE OF FIRE (7/1) gets his head in front.
Sir Michael Stoute's star ran just twice as a juvenile, thrashing some good quality rivals on his second start at Salisbury in September. Circle Of Fire is by a dual-Champion Stakes winner in Almanzor and out of a Galileo mare who won over 12 furlongs during her career, so there's every chance that Ryan Moore's mount will improve for this step up in trip.
Race 2 - Novice Stakes Tips
I always prefer to back runners with experience in novice races at this stage of the season. DUBAI HILLS (9/2) ran on well from off the pace to finish second behind a winning favourite on debut at Chantilly in April and Amy Murphy's colt should have no trouble dealing with juicy ground on Friday.
Race 3 - bet365 Mile Tips
Light Infantry and Checkandchallenge are open to plenty of improvement as four-year-olds and both are greatly respected. That being said, NATIVE TRAIL (5/4) is a multiple Grade One winner and remains a horse to follow in the mile division this season.
On ratings, Native Trail regressed by three pounds last season. That assessment seems harsh when you consider that Charlie Appleby's colt won the Craven and the Irish Guineas last spring, while also placing second to Coroebus in the 2000 Guineas. Native Trail failed to convince over ten furlongs, so it's no surprise to see William Buick's mount dropped back to a mile and his record on this track is exceptional.
Race 4 - Daisy Warwick Stakes Tips
At an each-way price, I'll take a chance on CHING SHIH (16/1), who looked like a good prospect when winning a maiden at Newbury in 2021. David Simcock's filly recorded three fairly poor results last season, with a third-place finished behind Emily Upjohn in the Musidora Stakes the best she could muster. Ching Shih is certainly bred to improve with age and Luke Morris' mount should relish this step up to 12 furlongs.
Race 5 - King Charles II Stakes Tips
Despite an underwhelming run in the Burradon Stakes on his reappearance, ARABIAN STORM (9/1) remains a colt worth following this season.
Andrew Balding's star won well at Newcastle last season, following a narrow defeat here on the Rowley Mile first time out. Oisin Murphy's mount was backed into a very short price for the Burradon Stakes, so the team clearly feels he's of Listed quality. 9/1 looks like a nice price.
Race 6 - Pick Your Places Handicap Tips
A low draw towards the stands' rail can be beneficial here at Goodwood, so the well-handicapped CAME FROM THE DARK (6/1) could be well-placed to challenge from stall three.
A Group Three winner in 2021, Ed Walker's seven-year-old has dropped from 108 down to a mark of 96 over the past 12 months. Came From The Dark kept on well to finish third behind the ultra-impressive Silky Wilkie on his return to action at Musselburgh last month and Ross Coakley's mount is proven winner on soft ground.
Race 7 - Nyetimber Handicap Tips
Having missed the break, FINAL WATCH charged home from the rear to finish a strong fourth behind Rebel Territory here at Newmarket on his reappearance. William Stone's five-year-old is a previous winner on the Rowley Mile and was dropped a pound for that effort. Hollie Doyle's mount looks like the one to back.
