ITV Racing Tips - Saturday 2nd October

Race 1 - Fillies Handicap Tips

This looks a wide-open contest to me. With the heavens set to open around the country on Friday and Saturday, this may come down to who handles very soft ground best, and one who should be suited by the going is VIA SISTINA.

Following a decent showing on debut, Joe Tuite's filly romped to victory in a maiden at Goodwood, beating odds-on favourite Chiasma easily on soft ground. Things didn't go to plan in France last time out, where Via Sistina faded after keeping up with the pace over 12-furlongs, but this drop in trip should suit and she remains somewhat of an unknown quantity.

Race 2 - Rous Stakes Tips

During Royal Ascot, I tipped SIGNIFICANTLY in the Palace Of Hollyrood Stakes, and Karl Burke's three-year-old handled heavy ground well to win that handicap by a head.

Significantly hasn't won since, but did run with great credit from a tricky draw in the Flying Five Stakes, and finished fourth behind Hurricane Ivor at Newbury last time out, having done a little too much at the start of the race. If Clifford Lee's mount can break on terms with the leaders, then he's got the quality and speed to win a race of this stature.

Race 3 - October Auction Stakes Tips

I've backed Fearby a number of times this season and he could prove himself the class act in this 30-horse field. However, in the six runnings of this race, no horse has won with more than 8-13 on their backs, and I'm not sure the uphill finish to the Rowley Mile is really going to suit.

Instead, I'm going to take an each-way punt on ADAAY IN ASIA, who ran a cracker to finish second in a red-hot fillies handicap at Goodwood last time out. Harry Dunlop's filly has won on quick ground this season, but she has also won twice on slow all-weather surfaces and she's very well treated at the weights.

Race 4 - Cumberland Lodge Stakes Tips

Despite losing out to Hamish as the clear odds-on favourite in the September Stakes last time out, I can't resist backing HUKUM at 2/1.

Prior to that narrow defeat on the all-weather, Owen Burrow's star had enjoyed a prolific season, winning pattern races at Goodwood, York and Newbury, while also finishing a close third in a really strong renewal of the Hardwicke Stakes. While he may not be Group One class, Hukum is a dominant force at this level and he only has a three-pound penalty to shoulder.

Race 6 - Bengough Stakes Tips

With the going set to turn in his favour, I'm going to have to side with GLEN SHIEL. Archie Watson's seven-year-old hasn't put his best foot forward in recent starts, but last year's Champion Sprint winner loves soft ground and he always seems to produce his best here at Ascot.

With regular partner, Hollie Doyle banned, Paul Mulrennan takes the ride and he's unbeaten aboard Glen Shiel, having won at Newcastle on the only other occasion they've been paired up. Glen Shiel is a Group One-quality sprinter running in a Group Three, and ground conditions will be ideal.

Race 7 - Two-Year-Old Trophy Tips

I quite fancy a punt on MOJOMAKER, who's had a decent juvenile campaign thus far. David Loughnane's youngster was beaten just half-a-length by the classy Asymmetric over this trip at Goodwood in June, before placing in the Dragon Stakes back over five furlongs.

Pat Cosgrave's mount ran into significant traffic problems in both the Richmond Stakes and the Premier Yearling Stakes, staying on for fifth on both occasions. Given a clear run on Saturday, he could challenge for the victory.

Race 8 - The Fall Challenge Cup Tips

Just the 18 runners to sift through in Saturday's finale at Ascot, with the entire field separated by just eight pounds. Clive Cox plays a strong hand, with both Aratus and River Nymph catching the eye. However, given how competitive this race is, I'd rather take a speculative each-way punt on the soft ground-loving TOMFRE.

Ralph Beckett's charge racked up a hat-trick on heavy ground at the back-end of his three-year-old campaign, claiming his last handicap win off a mark of 101. This season, Tomfre has finished second in the Listed Spring Trophy at Haydock, second in a Class Two handicap at York and ninth in the Buckingham Palace Stakes, where the ground was simply too quick for him.

Following a summer break, Tomfre returned to action with a decent effort in a Listed race at Newbury, and he could be a big player dropping back down in class.
