The second and final day of Newmarket's Future Champions meeting features two huge races, the Dewhurst Stakes and the Cesarewitch Handicap. The ITV Racing cameras will capture the best of the action on the Rowley Mile, along with three strong races from York.

This looks a very poor renewal of the Zetland. The majority of the runners were last seen running in nursery handicaps, and none really produced a performance you'd say was up to Grade Three standard.
The obvious choice is KYPRIOS, who - unusually for one of Aidan O'Brien's colts - won first time out on heavy ground at Galway. This son of Galileo is a full brother to dual Irish St Leger winner Search For A Song, so stepping up to this distance shouldn't be a problem.
O'Brien has won this with Norway and Kew Gardens in recent seasons, and I'm not prepared to side against Kyprios at the top of the betting.

Another juvenile race and, again, I'm finding it hard to knock the form that market leader, LEGAL ATTACK brings to the table. Simon Crisford's charge comfortably held off Shark Two One - who then won a big sales race at the Curragh - to score on debut, before finishing second in Group Three company out in France.
Legal Attack ran into a hugely promising sort in Plainchant that day. The winner will carry a very short price into a Group Two this weekend, so for Legal Attack to follow her home was a solid result. Soft ground clearly isn't an issue, and I'd be surprised if Adam Kirby's mount doesn't mount a winning challenge.

A wide-open race, with most firms going 3/1 the field. The one who appeals most to me is ONE RULER, who's seasonal form looks very solid.
Charlie Appleby's charge was beaten by Dewhurst runner, Etonian on debut. One Ruler then made all to beat Maximal and Latest Generation in a maiden at Sandown. Buick's mount was then squeezed out at New Mandate and Lanequash set off for home in the Flying Scotsman. That interference didn't stop him winning, but I feel One Ruler would have finished a little closer to the top two given a clear run to the line.
New Mandate has since come out and won the Royal Lodge Stakes in fine style, so the form of that Listed race stacks up well. One Ruler is bred to improve over the mile, and he'll need to run well here to warrant that entry in the Group One Vertem Futurity Trophy.

Five of the seven editions of this handicap have been won by three-year-olds, so it's no surprise to see younger horses dominating the betting. Ilaraab was fancied for the Cambridgeshire before his late withdrawal, and should run another strong race. CRYSTAL PEGASUS is my preference, though.
Having hit the frame on his first three starts this season, Crystal Pegasus finally claimed a deserved win, bolting up on soft ground to win a weak maiden at Beverley. Kevin Stott's mount then built on that showing at Yarmouth, making all to beat Nasraawy, on firm ground which really should have suited his rival better.
Crystal Pegasus is only up four pounds for that impressive victory, and will carry just 8-9 into this handicap. I'd be disappointed if he didn't challenge for a third win.

I'm keen to side with ROULSTON SCAR in this competitive handicap. Simon Crisford's charge made his return to British soil at Nottingham two weeks ago, and put up a fine display to beat Danzeno, when giving his highly-rated rival two pounds at the weights.
That was the second time in his last four starts that Roulston Scar has run up to an RPR around the 110 mark, so to be pushed up the handicap by just two pounds for that win seems lenient. Adam Kirby's mount won nicely over course-and-distance last September, and has winning form on soft ground to his name too. He'll be my best bet in the race.

I'd also like to take another punt on BARBILL, who I backed at a lengthy price in the Ayr Gold Cup. Again, Mick Channon's charge struggled to get away, and was rushed up to the front. Those efforts took their toll, as Barbill slipped back through the pack.
David Probert's mount has been dropped back to 99 following that defeat, and I remain confident Barbill is capable of winning off this sort of mark. Soft ground is ideal and he's drawn in the midst of a block of pace between stalls four and twelve. I'm hopeful Barbill can outrun his lengthy odds and challenge for a spot in the places.
