ITV Racing Tips - Friday 7th October

Race 1 - Veterans' Handicap Chase Tips

Cloth Cap and The Mighty Don will be popular as both enter Veteran company for the first time. They might have to go some to reel in SOME CHAOS, who won this race off a two pound higher mark 12 months ago.

Michael Scudamore's 11-year-old loves good ground and goes especially well at this time of year. More than half of Some Chaos' wins have come in the autumn. Ben Poste's mount even managed to place third behind Secret Investor and Potterman in the Native River handicap at this meeting in 2020.

Race 2 - Cornwallis Stakes Tips

Having put up Prince Of Pillo when he scorched home at Ayr three weeks ago, I should really follow the favourite in once again. However, bet365 is paying out on the first four places in this Group Three, so I'll take a wild punt on LADY HAMANA at a crazy price.

Having failed to see out six furlongs on debut at Newmarket, Karl Burke's filly thrashed a 1/2 Godolphin favourite when dropped back to the minimum distance at Wolverhampton. Lady Hamana was last seen finishing fifth in a red-hot renewal of the Flying Childers, where she crossed the line just a neck behind Prince Of Pillo. 40/1 is a massive price.

Race 3 - Persian War Novices' Hurdle Tips

Quid Pro Quo2:10pm Unibet Persian War Novices' Hurdle (Grade 2) 2m3½fGET 7/4 HERE

The first Graded race of the new National Hunt season takes place at Chepstow racecourse on Friday afternoon. Presentandcounting deserves a high-profile outing after his summer exploits, while both Deeper Blue and Scipion look smart prospects to go novice chasing with in the near future.

The most obvious winner is the favourite, QUID PRO QUO, who's bolted up in two novice hurdles since the end of last season. Dan Skelton's charge won very nicely over 19 furlongs at Warwick, before returning an SP of 1/5 when scoring at Newton Abbot on June 1st. Quid Pro Quo jumped nicely during both of those victories and, although this is a step up in class, he should be good enough to cope with it.

Race 4 - Oh So Sharp Stakes Tips

A handful of progressive fillies clash in this wide-open Group Three. I'm going to put my trust in Ralph Beckett and back his once-raced daughter of Lope De Vega, LOSE YOURSELF.

Rossa Ryan's mount won nicely when she made her debut on the July Course in August, travelling nicely behind the leaders before asserting in the closing stages. The second, fourth and sixth from that maiden have come out and won since, so that's a strong piece of form to bring to the table. Beckett is a master at handling precocious fillies and Lose Yourself seems to have plenty of talent.

Race 5 - Autumn Mile Handicap Tips

We now head up to York racecourse for an incredibly competitive 20-runner handicap. Genuine chances can be given to the majority of the field. At a tempting each-way price, I'll side with course winner LA TRINIDAD, who ran a cracker off this mark when second to Alazwar at the St LEger Festival last time out.

Sacred deservedly heads the betting, following her runaway triumph in the Free Cup Stakes last time out. William Haggas' filly has, however, failed to finish ahead of POGO on the two occasions they have met this season.

Pogo kicked off 2022 with victories in the John Of Gaunt and the Criterion Stakes, before finished ahead of Sacred at Glorious Goodwood. William Buick's mount again bested the favourite when he placed second to Kinross in the City Of York Stakes last time out, the form of which was boosted when the winner followed up in the Prix de la Foret last Sunday. I'd much rather back Pogo at the current prices.

Race 7 - 2Yo Series Final Tips

Shouldvebeenaring brings some decent form to the table and Defence Of Fort is a colt worth following. That being said, I can't see either handing a first defeat to market-topping STREETS OF GOLD.

Eve Johnson Houghton's juvenile made it three from three by winning a Nursery Handicap here at the Ebor Festival. Streets Of Gold then travelled over to Ireland for the Super Auction Stakes during Irish Champions Weekend, which he again won in authoritative fashion. Danny Tudhope's mount has already mopped up £180k for connections this term and could land yet another big prize on Friday.

Race 9 - Heritage Handicap Tips

Double Cherry survived traffic problems and interference to win an incident-packed 14-furlong handicap at Haydock last time out. Zain Nights and Flamborough were also involved in that blanket finish, and both reoppose Double Cherry. As does POST IMPRESSIONIST, who was badly inconvenienced that day, as he finished half-a-length behind the winner.

William Haggas' charge was keeping on stoutly along the rail as Sea King veered across his path at the two-pole. Adam Farragher then had nowhere to go for 150 yards, and by the time a gap opened, Post Impressionist could finish no better than fourth. Farragher still seemed to have plenty of horse underneath him as he crossed the line and Post Impressionist is slightly better off at the weights. 8/1 isn't a bad each-way price.

Race 10 - Old Rowley Cup Tips

Cosmic Desert E/W4:10pm Newmarket bet365 Old Rowley Cup Handicap (Heritage Handicap) 1m4fGET 14/1 HERE

Three of the last four renewals of this lucrative handicap have gone the way of the favourite, and I wouldn't be surprised if the progressive La Yakel continued that trend. Yet, given Charlie Appleby's excellent record in the Old Rowley Cup, I'm going to have an each-way punt on the least-fancied of his three runners, COSMIC DESERT.

Since placing behind talented sorts like New London and Deauville Legend on his first two starts, this New Approach gelding has continued to progress throughout the season. Cosmic Desert finally broke his duck in an extremely competitive handicap at Sandown last time out, where he powered home from the rear to win going away from the field.

A four pound rise for that dominant victory doesn't seem overly harsh and this step up in trip should really suit. Jamie Spencer will fancy his chances at Newmarket racecourse.
