We take provide readers with our ITV Racing tips, covering every race at York and Newbury on Saturday 18th July.

There may be no Group One or Two races to take in on Saturday, but punters still have eight excellent races to sink their teeth into. The John Smith’s Cup is undoubtedly the biggest betting race of the day, and a maximum field of 22 will battle it out for the £37k first prize.

I’ve taken a look through all of Saturday’s televised races and picked out my best bets.

Saturday’s ITV Racing Tips

Race 1 - Silver Cup Stakes Tips

MOONLIGHT SPIRIT won a Group Three in France last season, over a trip one furlong further than this. Charlie Appleby’s charge was then beaten as the favourite in the Prix Chaudenay, but losing by such a narrow margin to Technician – who went on to land a Group One later that month – can be regarded as a very good effort.

William Buick’s mount finished last in the Ascot Gold Cup on his return, but he clearly didn’t get the trip that day and he’s been given a month off to recover. Although he’s won in France, Moonlight Spirit has shown a clear liking for good ground, so the conditions of this race at York look ideal.

Race 2 - Rose Bowl Stakes Tips

Method’s convincing debut victory was given a boost last week when Fev Rover, who was beaten almost five lengths by Martyn Meade’s charge, came up just a neck short of Dandalla in the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes. While the favourite looks solid, I’m more interested in MIGHTY GURKHA, who ran well in a red-hot Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Archie Watson’s charge was dropping back in trip, having romped to victory over a future two-time winner on debut at Lingfield. Hollie Doyle tracked the leaders down the centre, but looked a little outpaced as Tactical set out for home and had to settle for fifth. Returning to six furlongs seems sensible and Mighty Gurkha could be very hard to peg back, if allowed to dictate the tempo.

Race 3 - Smith's Cup Tips

Tinandali E/W2:30pm York John Smith's Cup Handicap (Heritage Handicap) 1m2½fGET 20/1 HERE

15 of the last 20 winners of this race came out of stall eight or wider, so defending champion Pivoine and the fancied Desert Icon have certainly been inconvenienced by the draw. The last five races have been won by horses carrying more than nine stone, and 16 of the last 18 renewals have been won by four or five-year-olds.

The one I really like the look of is TINANDALI, for the in-form David O’Meara and local owners South Yorkshire Building Solutions.

Since arriving from Ireland, Tinandali has placed under top-weight in two very competitive ten-furlong handicaps. First up at Ayr, where Danny Tudhope’s mount went down by just half-a-length to Nicholas T. Jim Crowley then took the ride at Epsom, where Tinandali ran another great race to place third behind the impressive Sky Defender.

Tinandali has run up to a high level on both his starts on British soil, and will carry just 9-4 into battle. He’s been drawn kindly out in stall 19, and looks to have been severely underestimated in the market. Tinandali will be my sole each-way selection.

Race 4 - Premier Fillies' Handicap Tips

HUBOOR has shaped well on both her starts so far this season, before running out of steam in the closing stages. On the back of a fifth-place finish in a hot-handicap at Lingfield, Mark Johnston's filly went into the Sandringham as an 11/1 shot, and looked to be well placed to challenge before crossing the line one-paced back in sixth.

Both of Huboor’s juvenile wins came on good spring ground, so she may have been inconvenienced by slow ground conditions at Lingfield and Ascot. The handicapper has decided to drop her rating by a pound on the back of that Sandringham run, and she should have no trouble seeing out the mile on more favourable going.

Race 5 - City Walls Stakes Tips

Equilateral3:05pm York John Smith's City Walls Stakes (Listed Race) 5fGET 4/1 HERE

Only Brando was slower out of the blocks than EQUILATERAL in the July Cup last weekend. James Doyle was always playing catch-up from that point, and failed to make any inroads as Oxted sealed an impressive victory.

The fact he’s out again so quickly suggests he’s come out of that Group One well. When dropped out of Grouped company, Equilateral has won six of his eight starts, and has won both his last two starts at Listed level. I won’t be having a big bet, but he’s the one who offers the most appeal.

Race 6 - Aphrodite Fillies' Stakes Tips

Vivid Diamond3:25pm Newbury bet365 Aphrodite Fillies' Stakes (Listed Race) 1m4fGET 11/2 HERE

Despite the fact that three-year-olds have beaten their elders in six of the last ten renewals of this race, I’m going to side with the older brigade and back VIVID DIAMOND. Mark Johnston’s filly ran away with the Listed Chester Stakes back in August, and has performed well to place third in two mixed-sex Group Threes since.

Vivid Diamond may have finished last of four on her comeback run at Newmarket, but she was only beaten four lengths by rivals rated higher than anything she faces in this field. If Universal Order, who won at Newmarket, follows up in the Silver Cup Stakes at York, Vivid Diamond’s price could plummet.

Race 7 - Extra Places Every Day Handicap Tips

Jamie Spencer will be making his comeback from injury this weekend, and he could visit the winner’s enclosure at York onboard PREJUDICE. David Simcock’s charge may not have won over this trip yet, but Prejudice ran well to place in some very competitive handicaps at Newbury and Newmarket.

Simcock’s four-year-old was well-beaten on his all-weather debut at Kempton last month. He should have come on nicely from that reappearance run, and should be much more competitive switching back to turf. A Jamie Spencer special could be on the cards!

Race 8 - Hackwood Stakes Tips

The Tin Man4:00pm Newbury bet365 Hackwood Stakes (Group 3) 6fGET 11/2 HERE

No eight-year-old has ever won the Hackwood Stakes, but I fancy THE TIN MAN is best placed to win back the crown he lifted as a four-year-old in 2016. James’ Fanshawe’s charge went into this race as a 6/4 shot last year, on the back of a good run in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, but Oisin Murphy’s mount never really settled into his running and faded during the final furlong.

Following that disappointment, The Tin Man ran a blinder to finish a neck-second in the Spring Cup at Haydock, and returns to Newbury having run another solid race in the Diamond Jubilee. The ground at Newbury is much nicer this time around, and I’m confident he remains the classiest horse in the field.
