Tips, odds and trends for the 2025 Lincoln Handicap

The 2025 flat season officially begins on Saturday, with Doncaster hosting the first major card of the new campaign. The big betting race on the afternoon is the Lincoln, a one-mile handicap for older horses that was first run at Doncaster in 1853.
I've taken a look through the last Lincoln betting and listed some key trends, before picking out my best ITV Racing betting tips.

2025 Lincoln Trends
16 of the last 17 winners were having their first start in Britain that year
16 of the last 17 winners had won a race on turf
14 of the last 17 winners ran in good quality races last time out (Class 2 or above)
14 of the last 17 winners were aged four or five
13 of the last 17 winners were weighted between 8-10 and 9-4
13 of the last 17 winners had won over one mile or further

This year's Lincoln looks as competitive as ever. The entire 22-runner field is separated by just 11 pounds, meaning even the bottom-weight, Old Cock will be carrying more than 9-00.
Lattam ran a cracker to finish second in this race 12 months ago and Godwinson is a horse I'll be following again this term. However, while the Lincoln is usually run on soft ground, there should be some good in the going description on Saturday, which might not suit either Lattam or Godwinson, who've shown a liking for softer conditions.
2025 Lincoln Handicap Tip 1 - Native Warrior
Three progressive three-year-olds top the market for this year's Lincoln and all three have been drawn on the favourable high side of the track. The best-treated of the trio could be NATIVE WARRIOR (7/1), who went very close on his first two starts in handicap last season.
Karl Burke's youngster won his group on the stand's side of the track when third behind Mickley in the Britannia at Royal Ascot. Native Warrior then saw out nine furlongs well during Glorious Goodwood, where he looked to have times his challenge perfectly, only to get run down late on by Paradias.
Burke's youngster finished 11th of 14 behind Johan on his final outing of last season here at Doncaster, but was only beaten six lengths and kept getting pushed wide over the final two furlongs. Native Warrior remains open to plenty of improvement as a four-year-old and I'm hoping that course experience will stand him in good stead.

2025 Lincoln Handicap Tip 2 - Oliver Show
I've also had a little bet on OLIVER SHOW (20/1) for George Boughey and Billy Loughnane - a combination worth following during the 2025 flat season.
Oliver Show is yet to win on turf, but has only run once on British turf since joining Boughey in 2023. Having spent the first half of last season on the all-weather, Boughey's five-year-old went close in a Racing League fixture at Yarmouth in July, before scoring in that competition at Southwell the following month.
Boughey's star has run three times in Bahrain this season, placing second on his most recent outing in a Listed race over a mile. Oliver Show returns to Britain running off a workable mark of 95 and Loughnane will be pleased with his high draw in stall 15.
