A fairly low-key afternoon of racing on Saturday is headlined by the Mares' Novices' Hurdle Series Final. This Grade Two limited handicap has been won by some strong mares down the years, including Roksana, who went on to win the Mares' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival the following year.

Only one top-weight has won this series final in the last 20 years, but that hasn't stopped the bookmakers from listing Jasmine Bliss as the clear favourite. Siog Geal could rival the market leader for favouritism and Fergal O'Brien's filly looks ready for this step up in trip.

Normally, I'd back two in a handicap hurdle like this. However, this year's renewal looks fairly low on quality. We've seen horses in the 130s win this series final and some go on to land Grade Ones, but most of the horses at bigger prices are rated below 110 and bring little meaningful form into the contest. I have, however, found a potentially classy mare to back at a decent price.

2025 Mares' Novices' Hurdle Series Final Tips - Rockstown Girl

ROCKSTOWN GIRL (8/1) has a similar profile to All The Glory, who won this race 12 months ago. Anthony McCann's mare was highly tried in bumpers, finishing third at the Dublin Racing Festival and seventh behind Dysart Enos in the Grade Two mares flat race at the 2023 Grand National Festival.

Like All The Glory, Rockstown Girl is a second-season novice. McCann's seven-year-old won on her third hurdles start at Tipperary in May 2024 and qualified for this final when comfortably beating two fancied British mares at Chepstow in October.

James O'Sullivan's mount travelled all over Dameofthecotswolds and odds-on favourite, Regatta De Blanc that day. Rockstown Girl didn't jump the second-last well and got in tight to the final flight, but still had more than enough left in the tank to repel her two rivals, who've both gone on to reach marks in the mid-120s.

Rockstown Girl was an early faller in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham in November and was well-beaten in a Listed Hurdle at Punchestown in December, after which McCann decided to put his seven-year-old away for this series final. Rockstown Girl is fresh, she looks well-treated off this mark of 121 and Oakley Brown - who'll ride this mare for the first time on Saturday - is good value for his five pound claim.
