This Saturday's ITV meeting at Newbury is headlined by the Group Two Mill Reef Stakes. This top juvenile contest has produced many an outstanding colt, including future Group One winners like Mon Fils, Dark Angel, Ribchester and Harry Angel.

2024 Mill Reef Stakes Entries

Richard Fahey will unleash Powerful Glory, who trounced some decent rivals when making a winning debut at Pontefract. Shadow Of Light brings Group Two form into this contest, having finished second to Cool Hoof Luke in the Gimcrack last month.

Hamad Al Jehani looks set to be represented by unbeaten Too Darn Hot colt Defence Minister. Sirenia Stakes winner, Symbol Of Strength will represent Adrian Keatley, with the once-raced Sarab Star also defending an unbeaten record in Saturday's feature.

Sylvester Kirk's experienced juvenile, Brian remains in Group company following a third-place finish in the Sirenia. Andesite returned from an absence with a seventh-place finish in the Gimcrack, finishing three places ahead of Billboard Star, who finished last in that Group Two. John Ryan's La Bellota and Clive Cox's Star Anthem complete the line-up.

2024 Mill Reef Stakes Tips

With former favourite Ides Of March seemingly being saved for the Middle Park Stakes, POWERFUL GLORY (5/2) now tops the betting for Saturday's feature. Richard Fahey's star looked like a potential superstar on debut at Beverley, running up to an RPR of 93 with seemingly plenty left up his sleeve.

Powerful Glory was heavily backed prior to that winning debut - always a positive sign with Fahey's juveniles. The runner-up hasn't done much to boost the form since, but the third won well next time out and the fourth went close behind an unbeaten juvenile of Ollie Sangsters, so it was clearly a decent race that Fahey's newcomer won by six lengths.

Shadow Of Light will attempt to rubber-stamp the Gimcrack form, but I thought he looked a little one-paced in that Group Two. I did toy with the idea of Billboard Star, who is certainly overpriced considering his form from earlier in the season.

Yet, there's undoubtedly some star quality about Powerful Glory and he'll be my selection, despite a fairly short price.
