Day one of the Craven Meeting is headlined by the Nell Gwyn Stakes. This Group Three is often used as a trial for the 1000 Guineas, and many of the runners in Tuesday's renewal are entered in that historic fillies' Classic.

2025 Nell Gwyn Stakes Runners

Despite his brilliant record at Newmarket, Charlie Appleby has only managed to win the Nell Gwyn once before. That could change on Tuesday when Verse Of Love makes her reappearance, having bolted up on the Rowley Mile on her sole juvenile start.

James Doyle has been confirmed in the saddle of Arabian Dusk, who won the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes last term and finished third in the Cheveley Park. Nardra looked good when winning on her sole juvenile start. Ollie Sangster's Celestial Orbit has already proven her stamina over seven furlongs, having won the Star Stakes at Sandown last July.

July Festival maiden winner, Remaat will represent Andrew Balding. Kieran Shoemark has been confirmed in the saddle of all-weather winner Zanzoun. Ray Dawson rides Cartwheel for Dylan Cunha. Roger Varian's Qarlyga, Tom Clover's Biniorella Bay and Brian Meehan's Saguaro Blossom round off the field.

2025 Nell Gwyn Stakes Tips

1000 Guineas entrant, Verse Of Love still looked very green when flattening a modest field on debut, proving she could handle the Rowley Mile in the process. The ground was good-to-soft that day, and there is some rain forecast to fall on Tuesday morning which should ease the going a little in her favour.

That being said, Charlie Appleby's three horses at Newbury on Saturday were backed off the boards in the build-up and all three barely raised a gallop. The blue of Godolphin usually dominate proceedings at flat racing HQ, but there are some interesting alternatives to the market leader in this field.

Arabian Dusk brings the best juvenile form to the table and should see out seven furlongs as a three-year-old. Any easing in the going would suit Nardra, who bolted up on debut at Haydock last term. Celestial Orbit ran out an impressive winner of the Star Stakes before suffering a set-back and Ollie Sangster would love plenty of rain to fall ahead of her reappearance.

At a much bigger price, BINIORELLA BAY (50/1) catches my eye. Tom Clover's filly won nicely on her turf debut on the July Course in June, before running well to finish fourth in both the Prix Six and the Prestige Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Clover stepped his filly up to a mile for her final juvenile outing in a Class 2 on the all-weather. Biniorella Bay paid the price for racing wide and prominently throughout, fading late on to finish fourth once again.

This leggy daughter of New Bay looked like she had plenty of strengthening up to do last season. Clover said last term that Biniorella Bay was better on faster ground than soft, so conditions should suit Jack Mitchell's mount as she reappears on the Rowley Mile. She might not be classy enough to win, but on juvenile form, there's no way she should be 50/1!
