Friday's card at Ascot is headlined by the lucrative Noel Murless Stakes. This 14-furlong Listed race was introduced to the schedule in 2002. Two of the most famous winners are Big Orange, who went on to win the Goodwood Cup and the Ascot Gold Cup, and Nichols Canyon, who went on to join Willie Mullins and win the Stayers' Hurdle at the 2017 Cheltenham Festival.

We've taken a look through the field set to contest Friday's renewal of the Noel Murless and picked out our best bets.

Chalk Stream will be going for his fourth victory in a row when he returns to Ascot on Friday. William Haggas' charge romped to victory over a mile-and-a-half here last time out, running up to an impressive RPR of 111.

Sitting second in the betting is Scope, who was last seen staying on for sixth in the St Leger. Mandoob won his first two starts of the season, before claiming a creditable second behind Yibir in the Bahrain Trophy.

John Gosden will throw Nifty Fifty Handicap winner First Light into battle. Andrew Balding is doubly represented by Melrose Handicap winner, Valley Forge and March Stakes third, Classic Lord.

The Noel Murless is a race that Ralph Beckett likes to target. In the last five years, Beckett has won this race twice and saddled the runner-up last year when Albaflora was beaten by Berkshire Rocco.

SCOPE was my 50/1 outside selection in the St Leger. I thought Beckett's three-year-old had been running very well in some difficult races this season, and remained open to plenty of improvement.

Rob Hornby's mount didn't start all that well at Doncaster, and was forced to bide his time at the rear of the field. While he couldn't run his way into the places, Scope did really well to stay on through significant traffic to finish sixth, just a length behind Interpretation in fourth.

The ground was heavy when Scope beat Mojo Star as a two-year-old, and he's handled juicy ground well at Lingfield and Doncaster this season. The ground will likely go towards soft, maybe even heavy over the next 24 hours, but I'm confident this progressive three-year-old will handle any sort of ground.

There are several progressive sorts in here, but Scope was my big-priced selection in the St Leger and, after running well in that Classic, I'm going to keep faith with Ralph Beckett's colt.
