The first major card of the National Hunt season takes place at Aintree on Sunday, where the Old Roan Chase is the feature. This Grade Two Limited Handicap has been won by many great chasers, and a classy field will contest this year's renewal.

We've taken a look through the betting for Sunday's Old Roan and picked out our best betting tips.

Defending champion, Nuts Well heads the betting for Sunday's renewal. Ann Hamilton's charge defeated Ayr Right in a handicap at Kelso before landing this Grade Two 12 months ago. Nutts Well has taken the same route this year, making a successful return at Kelso three weeks ago and he deservedly tops the market.

Allmankind looked in need of the run on his return over hurdles two weeks ago, and Dan Skelton's Grade One-winning novice will have to carry top-weight on Sunday. Tamaroc Du Mathan looked a progressive novice last season, but really struggled behind Allmankind at Ayr during the spring and that run is hard to ignore.

Itchy Feet was the beaten favourite in this race 12 months ago, and returns to Aintree on better terms with Nuts Well. Fanion D'Estruval struggled at times last season, but has shown signs of ability and could have a say in the matter.

11-year-old Huntsman Son takes his chance, as does the progressive Killer Crown. Midnight Shadow, who endured a torid campaign last year, rounds off the betting.

The most attractive prospect in the betting, for me, is ITCHY FEET. Olly Murphy's former Scily Isles winner carried top-weight here last year and was only beaten two lengths, despite an error-strewn round of jumping.

Gavin Sheehan's mount then finished second to Imperial Aura on soft ground in the 1965 Chase, and second against to future Grade One winner Dashel Drasher on unsuitably heavy ground in December.

A shock return to hurdles followed at Haydock, but Itchy Feet jumped poorly and didn't see out the three-mile trip. Murphy's charge returned to chasing at the Grand National meeting in April, where he stayed on from the rear to finish a length behind Nuts Well back in third.

Itchy Feet will be getting six pounds from Nuts Well on Sunday and seven from Allmankind. Murphy has also fitted cheek-pieces for the first time, to try and help his seven-year-old return to top form.

Although he failed to win, Itchy Feet had a consistent season over fences, and he's dropped down to an appealing mark in the weights. He'll do for me at 7/1.
