Racing fans have Grade Two action to enjoy on Sunday, where the Peterborough Chase will be played out at Huntingdon. This two-and-a-half mile open chase has been won by many of National Hunt racing's legends, with Wayward Lad, One Man, Edredon Bleu and Monet's Garden featuring on the roll of honour.

2024 Peterborough Chase Runners

Topping the market for Sunday's feature is Ryanair Chase winner Protektorat. Dan Skelton will have been pleased with his nine-year-old's reappearance in the Paddy Power Gold Cup, where Protektorat finished sixth under a top weight of 12-00.

Ginny's Destiny blew out in that handicap, having sat atop the betting for much of the build-up, but seems likely to improve plenty for that comeback run. As will Venetia Williams' Djelo, who went close behind JPR One on his return to action in the Haldon Gold Cup.

Sarah Humphrey's will be represented by stable star Nickle Back, who has his first start against his elders have enjoyed a Grade One-winning novice chasing campaign in 2023/24. Donald McCain and Brian Hughes team up with Old Roan Chase winner, Minella Drama.

2024 Peterborough Chase Tips

Protektorat improved gradually with his racing last season. His only victory came in the Ryanair at Cheltenham, having suffered four defeats in lesser races. Ginny's Destiny, on the other hand, went on a winning spree after a terrible return to action at Cheltenham, so his reappearance effort in the Paddy Power Gold Cup is somewhat forgivable.

I remain a big fan of DJELO (4/1) and fancy he could improve most for his return to action. Venetia Williams' six-year-old found himself a little outpaced in the Haldon Gold Cup, but his jumping improved as the race went on and Charlie Deutsch's mount was gaining on JPR One as the top two crossed the line.

Djelo's best performance as a novice came over two-and-a-half miles, thrashing future Coral Gold Cup winner Kandoo Kid to land the Noel Novices' Chase at Ascot. Williams' chaser was then held up too far off the pace on his final three starts in Grade Ones, so I'm hoping to see Deutsch take a more prominent position behind the likely front-runner, Nickel Back.

Venetia Williams' horses remain in excellent form. Djelo remains progressive, is just as effective going right-handed as left and seems versatile when it comes to ground conditions. He has a little to find in terms of rating, but there's clearly more to come from this talented second-season chaser.
