Racing fans have Grade Two action to enjoy on Sunday, where the Peterborough Chase will be played out at Huntingdon. This two-and-a-half mile open chase has been won by many of National Hunt racing's legends, with Wayward Lad, One Man, Edredon Bleu and Monet's Garden featuring on the roll of honour.

Here's our free guide to the 2023 Peterborough Chase, including our best betting tips.

Topping the market we find Edwardstone, who's also declared to run in the Tingle Creek at Sandown on Saturday. Alan King said at the start of the season that he was hoping to step his Arkle winner up in distance this term and Edwardstone ran a pleasing race on his reappearance at Cheltenham last month.

Willie Mullins sends Janidil over to England, following a decent enough comeback run behind stablemate Allaho at Clonmel. 2021 winner, First Flow will make his third appearance in the Peterborough Chase, having placed third behind Pic D'Orhy in last year's renewal.

Jetoile will carry a penalty following his victory in the Old Roan at Aintree, where the low sun meant only ten of the 16 fences were jumped. Al Dancer, who finished third at Aintree, runs in his second Grade Two on the bounce. Harry Cobden and Paul Nicholls will be represented by seven-year-old Solo.

2023 Peterborough Chase Tips

Despite his enthusiasm to step his stable star up in distance, Alan King has said that the Tingle Creek is Edwardstone's number one target. An inspection has been called on Saturday morning ahead of the Tingle Creek card, but it's unlikely that Sandown's meeting will be called off.

Edwardstone's omission would leave Janidil topping the market. Willie Mullins raider is the first Irish horse to run in this Grade Two since 2008 and Janidil, who'll be wearing a tongue-tie for the first time, looked like he desperately needed the run on his return to action at Clonmel.

Despite backing Jetoile at lengthy odds when he beat Al Dancer in the Old Roan, I'm not sure I trust that form line. First Flow ran an admirable race on his reappearance at Ascot, but I'd be very disappointed if an 11-year-old was able to win an open Grade Two.

I'm left looking at SOLO (11/1), who progressed nicely over two-and-a-half miles last season. Paul Nicholls' star beat future Coral Gold Cup winner, Datsalrightgino to win the Pendil Novices' Chase, having finished second to classy rivals Thunder Rock and Balco Coastal in two high-quality handicaps.

Nicholls dropped Solo down to two miles for his return in the Haldon Gold Cup. Harry Cobden tried to make all, but Solo was run down by Elixir De Nutz, who was getting ten pounds from the favourite at the weights. Elixir De Nutz has since boosted the Haldon Gold Cup form with another handicap triumph at Newbury and Solo will be much more effective back up in distance. He appeals most to me at 10/1.

Verdict

Solo is our each-way selection in the 2023 Peterborough Chase.
