All eyes were on Doncaster racecourse this afternoon, as the final Classic of the season, the 2023 St Leger took place.

Aidan O'Brien saddled four of the nine runners and it was Ryan Moore's chosen mount, Continuous was well-backed in the build-up. Frankie Dettori, riding in his final British Classic, partnered Arrest for John and Thady Gosden - who also ran Gregory and Middle Earth - and it was Arrest who entered the stalls as the 11/4 favourite.

A year and a week after the tragic passing of Queen Elizabeth II, Desert Hero carried the Royal silks into the St Leger. The best-backed horse during the build-up was Aidan O'Brien's second-string Tower Of London, who was cut into 8/1 by the time the stalls burst open.

Gregory was the first to show, along with the third Ballydoyle runner Denmark. Chesspiece and Arrest were posted wide early on. Ryan Moore settled Continuous down in the midfield ahead of Desert Hero. Middle Earth and Tower Of London looked happy to sit out the back.

Denmark and Gregory set steady fractions throughout. Frankie Dettori was forced to take a pull on Arrest down the back straight, as the favourite looked a little too keen to get on with things.

Turning for home, and the order had changed very little. Kieran Shoemark attempted to kick aboard Gregory, but the leaders were soon swallowed up as the market leaders came to the fore.

Ryan Moore was the first to make his move and Continuous responded well, kicking into the lead three furlongs from home. Dettori managed to work his way into a position to challenge aboard Arrest, but it was clear a furlong from home that the bird had flown and Aidan O'Brien celebrated his seventh St Leger victory.

Desert Hero stayed on well, having been hampered a couple of times, to finish a good third behind Arrest. Tower Of London picked up from the rear to place fourth, but it was his stablemate, Continuous who stole the headlines and rightly so, following a fairly dominant performance.
