Commonwealth Cup Tips & Predictions

The Commonwealth Cup betting market is wide open and punters are getting great odds for every runner.

Sioux Nation is currently the joint-favourite for the 2018 Commonwealth Cup during the Royal Ascot Festival and the Aidan O'Brien-trained colt is attracting attention from bettors.

He's by Scat Daddy, which also left US Triple Crown contender Justify and also Lady Aurelia and Caravaggio. That breeding is going to stack up well for Sioux Nation and the 6/1 on offer is good value.

A winner of four from nine starts, Sioux Nation comes into the race with a last start win in the Goffs Lacken Stakes at Naas and although that isn't a highly-regarded win, it should hold him in good stead for this race.

Bettors can't overlook his win in the Norfolk Stakes during the Royal Ascot Festival last year, where he defeated the likes of Santry and Cardsharp by a half-length. Past experience winning during the festival is a big attribute for the favourite.

Bringing a good deal of experience to the plate is fellow joint-favourite U S Navy Flag. The stablemate to Sioux Nation has raced on 12 occasions for four wins and four placings.

His most recent race came in the Irish 2000 Guineas where he finished second behind Romanised and although he was a touch one-paced in the straight, that form will line up well at this level.

The drop back in distance from the mile to the sprinting distance is a concern and he would be a lot shorter in the market if the Commonwealth Cup was run over eight furlongs. Despite that, he has form over this distance which includes a win in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket.

The market suggests that the Commonwealth Cup will be a wide-open affair but bettors should stick to the Aidan O'Brien-trained pair and backing both wouldn't be the worst strategic option.

Best Bet: Sioux Nation to win at 6/1
