The second part of a Group One double-header on day four of Royal Ascot is the Coronation Stakes. This one-mile contest is open only to three-year-old fillies and the form lines from three 1000 Guineas' will be drawn together on Friday.

Here's our free guide to the 2024 Coronation Stakes, including our best betting tips.

2024 Coronation Stakes Tips - Opera Singer

The first three from the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket will meet again on Friday. Elmalka benefitted most from the unsustainably fast early pace set in that Classic. Roger Varian's filly looked outpaced at the rear for much of the contest, but her stamina came to the fore late on as she ran down Ramatuelle and Porta Fortuna.

With no obvious front-runners in the field, I doubt this Group One will turn into such a test of stamina. Ramatuelle boasts plenty of natural speed and Christopher Head's choice to book Oisin Murphy over Aurelien Lemaitre is certainly a plus. Porta Fortuna would also be better suited by a sprint to the finish and Tom Marquand's mount is greatly respected.

I really liked the way Devoted Queen won at York and there's much more to come from her. A mile on fast ground may prove a bit sharp for a filly who looks like she wants ten furlongs. Then there's Folgaria, who beat Elmalka when the two met in the Fred Darling and Marco Botti's filly will be much happier on this ground than she was in the French 1000 Guineas. Folgaria does interest me, but with only three paid places available, there isn't much scope for an each-way bet.

In the end, I've come down on the side of OPERA SINGER (7/4), despite her short price. All of Aidan O'Brien's three-year-olds seem to have improved massively for their first outings of the season and that sort of natural progression should make Ryan Moore's mount difficult to beat.

Opera Singer was the outstanding two-year-old filly last term, running away with the Prix Marcel Boussac on her final start. O'Brien's star then opened her campaign with a third-place finish in the Irish 1000 Guineas - an excellent performance considering she'd only been in full training for three weeks leading up to that Classic.

Content might be used as a pacemaker, but I don't think Opera Singer needs the race to be set up for her, as she isn't short of one-mile speed. From stall nine, Moore should be able to slot in where he likes and, not for the first time this week, we could see another Ascot masterclass from the world's number one jockey.
