The only Group One race staged on day two at Royal Ascot is the Prince Of Wales's Stakes. This historic contest was first held at the Royal meeting in 1862 and a classy field will assemble for this year's renewal.

2024 Prince Of Wales's Stakes Ante-Post Tip - Auguste Rodin

Going into the recent Tattersalls Gold Cup, it was clear that Aidan O'Brien had Royal Ascot at the forefront of his thoughts for AUGUSTE RODIN (7/4), so I was surprised he ran as well as he did. White Birch proved too good on the day, but the favourite kept on gamely - on rain-softened ground that wouldn't have suited - to finish a clear second.

That outing at the Curragh should put Ryan Moore's mount spot on for the Prince Of Wales's Stakes. Auguste Rodin will relish the fast ground on day two of Royal Ascot and a reproduction of any of his three Group One wins from 2023 would be enough to win this.

2024 Prince Of Wales's Stakes Runners

A wave of support for my ante-post selection, along with the defections of Passenger and White Birch, will ensure that Auguste Rodin goes off at a fraction of the 6/1 that I took at the ante-post stage.

Inspiral has been rerouted from the Queen Anne and now sits second in the market. The only reason I can think of for that surprising switch - given how open the Queen Anne looks - is that John Gosden thinks his mare has lost that turn-of-foot that you need over a mile, especially with the ground as quick as it is.

Four of the ten runners in Wednesday's feature have made the journey over from France. Horizon Dore is the only one of the quartet who probably wants fast ground. The jury is still out on whether he is of Group One quality, though, following six straight defeats.

Alflaila is certainly a danger and Owen Burrows is a fantastic target trainer. Winning the Prince Of Wales's Stakes on your first start of the season, however, is a big ask for a horse who finished fifth on his sole Group One start to date.

Royal Rhyme wants soft ground. Lord North is over the hill and Hans Anderson will be the pacemaker for the new favourite. In short, I wouldn't swap my Auguste Rodin ante-post ticket for anything and Aidan O'Brien's star still offers value at 7/4.
