Royal Ascot kicks off in fantastic fashion, as many of the best milers in the sport battle it out in the Queen Anne Stakes. This historic Group One has been won by many legendary horses and this year's renewal is shaping up to be a thrilling contest.

2024 Queen Anne Stakes Ante-Post Tip - Inspiral

At the ante-post stage, I tipped INSPIRAL up at 5/1, anticipating a crash in the market. That's exactly what happened and the best price you could have found on the market leader on Thursday was 5/2.

However, John Gosden threw a spanner in the works on Friday when claiming Inspiral will be stepped up in trip for the Prince Of Wales's Stakes. With rain in the forecast, there's still a chance that Inspiral will remain over a mile in the Queen Anne, but this change of plan has forced me to look for an alternative selection.

2024 Queen Anne Stakes Value Bet - Brave Emperor

Given the size of the field that'll likely be confirmed, there's plenty of scope for an each-way wager. Dolayli could be a big player dropping back to a mile, while any further easing in the ground would bring Poker Face's stamina to the fore.

Another who wouldn't mind some juice in the ground is BRAVE EMPEROR (50/1), who'll be having his first run back on British soil since finishing down the field in the Hampton Court Stakes at this meeting last year.

Since then, Archie Watson's four-year-old has landed several big prizes around the world. Brave Emperor claimed Group Threes over a mile in France and Germany, before putting Poker Face to the sword with a four-length romp in a Group Two at the San Siro.

With Luke Morris in the saddle, Brave Emperor made a winning start to 2024 in a valuable contest out in Doha, before a slow start ruined his chances in the Champions Mile in Hong Kong. Watson then tried his star over a mile-and-a-quarter again in the Prix d'Ispahan, but the trip - like it did in the Hampton Court Stakes - sapped too much of his stamina.

A mile is clearly Brave Emperor's best trip and good-to-soft ground would be ideal. Archie Watson is no stranger to success at the Royal Meeting and he feels like this improving four-year-old is up to Group One level.
