Palace Pier got Royal Ascot 2021 off to a flyer for favourite backers, as he claimed a routine victory in the Queen Anne Stakes. Oisin Murphy then handed Andrew Balding his first Coventry Stakes win, as Berkshire Shadow flew home along the rail.

Hot-favourite Battaash then failed to fire in the King's Stand Stakes, as Oxted scored his first victory since the 2020 July Cup. The final Group One on the card went the way of Guineas hero Poetic Flare, who surged to a superb win in the St James's Palace Stakes.

Reshoun carried odds of 66/1 to victory in the Ascot Stakes, before Juan Elcano swept past Patrick Sarsfield to win the Wolferton.

Hollie Doyle then lowered the curtain on a fantastic opening day, winning the Copper Horse Handicaps with 33/1 outsider, Amtiyaz.

Day two promises to be just as thrilling as this afternoon. Don't forget to read our through the card tips to find out who we're backing at Royal Ascot.
