Royal Ascot Day 1 Tips - Tuesday 14th June

Race 2 - Coventry Stakes Tips

Although we've seen a 20/1 and that stunning 150/1 winner in recent years, they're the only two winners of the Coventry to carry a double-figure price to victory since 2003, so the market usually gets this Group Two right.

Persian Force hasn't put a foot wrong in his two starts to date and Richard Hannon's Brocklesby winner is greatly respected. Hannon's budding star has two Ballydoyle runners sitting around him in the betting, including BLACKBEARD, who's enjoyed a superb start to his fledgling career.

Following an easy victory on debut at Dundalk, Aidan O'Brien's colt claimed a narrow win in the Listed First Flier Stakes at Dundalk. Blackbeard made the running on his first outing over six furlongs last time out and produced a power-packed display, powering clear of some decent rivals to win by over three lengths.

No Nay Never is known for producing fast juveniles and Blackbeard is clearly very forward for his age. He'll be my best bet at 3/1.
The three fancied horses have been drawn between stalls 10 and 14, so the likes of Royal Scotsman and Bradsell - drawn one and two respectively - may find themselves on the wrong side of the track. Drawn perfectly amongst the market leaders is SHOW RESPECT, who could be worth an each-way punt at 33/1.

Brian Meehan's charge showed promise when fourth behind Royal Scotsman on debut. Show Respect then shrugged off the short-priced favourite, Catch The Paddy to register an emphatic win at Leicester last time out. There's plenty more to come from this son of Showcasing, and he could take another step forward on Tuesday.

Race 3 - King's Stand Stakes Tips

Find out which two sprinters we've backed against the field in our full guide to the 2022 King's Stand Stakes.

Race 4 - St James's Palace Stakes

Take a look at our full guide to the 2022 St James's Palace Stakes to see who we've backed against the market leader, Coroebus.

Race 5 - Ascot Stakes Tips

This race feels like a throwback to the Cheltenham Festival, with the names of Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott topping the market. While Bring On The Night and Pied Piper are greatly respected, I'm going to put my faith in Dan Skelton and back the top-weight, PROSCHEMA.

Proschema reached a mark of 104 on the flat for Tom Dascombe before being sent over hurdles. Skelton's recruit won back-to-back handicaps at Cheltenham and Aintree in 2021, and even finished second in the Grade Two West Yorkshire Hurdle at Wetherby back in October.

On his most recent outing at Haydock, Proschema finished a strong third under 12-00, giving 21 and 24 pounds to the two who finished just three lengths ahead of him. Skelton's star should be well-suited by the rigors of this race and James Doyle is an excellent jockey booking.

Race 6 - Wolferton Stakes Tips

Four-year-olds have accounted for three-quarters of the Wolferton Stakes winners and I'm intrigued by the chances of PEROTTO, who won the Britannia Stakes Handicap here at Royal Ascot last season.

Marcus Tregoning's charge showed plenty of six-furlong speed as a juvenile and was only beaten a length by future champion sprinter, Creative Force on his reappearance last term. I was, therefore, quite surprised when Perotto got a mile so comfortably in the Britannia, and even more shocked to see Jason Watson's mount finish like a train in the ten-furlong Foundations Stakes at Goodwood in September - where he was forced to make up tons of late ground following a sluggish start.

Perotto has run well fresh in the past, he loves fast ground and we know he can win at this famous meeting. He'll be my each-way selection in what looks a wide-open contest.

Race 7 - Copper Horse Stakes Tips

Cleveland held on to win the Chester Cup on his first start over ten furlongs and has only been upped five pounds for that valuable win. At the prices, I'd rather side with fellow Irish raider OKITA SOUSHI, who's reached a mark of 104 after just three lifetime starts.

Joseph O'Brien finally unleashed this strapping son of Galileo at Fairyhouse last June, where Okita Soushi saw off two Ballydoyle runners to make an impressive winning debut. Shane Crosse's mount then carried an odds-on price into the Kingdom Of Bahrain Stakes at Leopardstown, but couldn't pull upsides the strong-staying Interpretation - now rated 111 - and faded back to third in the closing stages.

On his reappearance in the Orby Stakes, O'Brien's charge was held up towards the rear and forced wide around the tight turn at the Curragh. Stablemate Raise You ran out an impressive winner, with Okita Soushi making strong late progress to hold off Wordsworth and complete a 1-2 for O'Brien in that Listed race.

With just three starts under his belt, there's every chance that Okita Soushi is progressing. He could be rated much higher than 104 come the end of the season.
