All eyes were on Stradivarius this afternoon, as John Gosden's star stayer attempted to match Yeats' tally of four Royal Ascot Gold Cup wins. Sadly, it wasn't to be for Frankie Dettori, as Subjectivist showed his rivals a clean set of heels turning for home and kept on powerfully to win by five lengths.

It wasn't all bad news for John Gosden on Friday, as 18/1 shot Loving Dream handed him a fifth victory in the Ribblesdale Stakes. The Hampton Court Stakes went the way of Mohaafeth, who had to survive a stewards' inquiry after drifting across Roman Empire in the closing stages.

Hector Crouch rode his first Royal Ascot winner, guiding Surefire to victory in the King George V Stakes Handicap. Oisin Murphy and Marcus Tregoning celebrated as Perotto stormed home to win the Britannia.

It was an excellent day on the whole for northern trainers. Subjectivist's trainer Mark Johnston was joined in the winners' enclosure by Richard Fahey, who won the Norfolk Stakes with Perfect Power, and John Quinn, who saddled Buckingham Palace Stakes winner Highfield Princess.

We gave you two winners and three long odds each-way placers at Ascot today. Get our through-the-card tips on day four of the Royal meeting here.
