Commonwealth Cup History
There isn't much history with the Commonwealth Cup as it was only introduced in 2015.
It's the only Group 1 race in Britain for three-year-olds that allows geldings and it's one of the main features on Day 4 of the carnival.
The race was introduced because of the programme changes to the sprinting calendar in Europe.
The Buckingham Palace Stakes was removed to make way for the Commonwealth Cup, which has been taken out by three quality horses to date.
Muhaarar won the inaugural race in 2015 before Quiet Reflection and Caravaggio won the other two races. Caravaggio was a popular winner at Royal Ascot in 2017 when winning at odds of 5/6.
The Aidan O'Brien-trained three-year-old ran well to lead with 100 yards to go before holding off the challenge from its rivals.
Also featuring in the race was Harry Angel (11/4) and Blue Point, which rounded out the placings and the first four home were the top four in betting.
It was the second consecutive win for the favourites after Quiet Reflection returned home as the 7/4 favourite in 2016.
Quiet Reflection won in similar fashion to Caravaggio in holding off 14/1 shot Kachy and 8/1 chance Washington DC.
Muhaarar was an outsider in an even field of 18. The inaugural running saw the biggest field line up and the Charles Hillis-trained runner scored the biggest win.
It stormed clear down the straight to score by 3.75 lengths over Limato and Anthem Alexander.
There was a shock result in the 2018 running of the Commonwealth Cup, as 12/1 shot Eqtidaar held off 21 other runners to land the Group One prize. Ten Sovereigns was the odds-on favourite to claim victory in 2019, but he only finished fourth as Frankie Dettori and Advertise won the Commonwealth Cup.
Wesley Ward celebrated another Royal Ascot winner in 2021 as Campenelle won the Commonwealth Cup. Richard Fahey was celebrating 12 months later, as Christophe Soumillon rode Perfect Power to an impressive victory.
