The Prince Of Wales's Stakes is the main event on day two of Royal Ascot. This Group One race is staged over a trip of one mile and two furlongs, and open to horses of four-years-old and above.

The race was first run in 1862 and was named after the Prince of Wales, future King Edward VII.

Promoted to Group 1 status in 2000 when taken out by Dubai Millennium, the Prince of Wales's Stakes has since been won by some of the world's best middle-distance thoroughbreds.

Godolphin won the race in three consecutive years with Dubai Millennium, Fantastic Light and Grandera. The global operation hasn't won the race since 2002.

Aidan O'Brien has had the most success since then with three winners. Duke of Marmalade, So You Think and Highland Reel were all trained by O'Brien, but So You Think was formerly trained by Bart Cummings.

Highland Reel was a popular winner in 2017, but it wasn’t the favourite at 9/4. The John Gosden-trained Jack Hobbs was the 2/1 favourite, but it finished well down the track and never featured during the run.

My Dream Boat caused a big upset at Royal Ascot in 2016 when winning at odds of 16/1. Included in the field of six was international winner Found and 8/13 favourite A Shin Hikari.

The Japanese star was all the rage heading into the race, but it finished five lengths from the winner and clearly didn't handle the tough conditions.

Free Eagle was a loose favourite at 5/2 when winning in 2015 and 2014 winner The Fugue paid 11/2 for each way punters.

It was the third time in four years that a hot favourite had been toppled in the Prince of Wales's Stakes. Treve was the 8/13 favourite, but never looked likely when finishing third.

So You Think was the beaten favourite in 2011 at odds of 4/11, but punters recouped their losses when the champion stallion won in 2012 at better-value odds of 4/5.

In 2019, five Group One winners from across Europe went head-to-head, and it was Sir Michael Stoute’s Crystal Ocean who prevailed. Lord North then quickened up brilliantly to win in 2020.

Aidan O'Brien's dual Classic winner, Love made a triumphant reappearance in the 2021 Prince Of Wales's Stakes. Aidan's son, Joseph then saddled the winner in 2022, as State Of Rest held off hot-favourite, Bay Bridge.
