Free tips and predictions for the 2019 Sydney Cup, which was last taken out by nine-year-old Who Shot Thebarman for Chris Waller.

The 2019 Sydney Cup will feature one of the best staying fields in Australia and is only rivaled by the likes of the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup.

It's becoming a great guide for racing during the Melbourne Cup Carnival and a full field of 18 runners will again do business on Day 2 of The Championships at Randwick.

Sydney Cup 2018 winner - Who Shot Thebarman

Sydney Cup 2018 recap

Who Shot Thebarman was too good for his rivals on Day 2 of the 2018 Championships at Randwick.

The nine-year-old showed that he still had some life left in his legs during his autumn preparation and that showed up on race day.

A former New Zealand runner, now trained by Chris Waller, Who Shot Thebarman came into the Sydney Cup having finished third in the Tancred Stakes behind Almandin and turned consistent form into winning form.

He came with a big run around the outside of runners in the straight to score by a nose over despised outsider Zacada and New Zealand entrant Sir Charles Road.

Who Shot Thebarman paid $19 with bookmakers and Zacada ($81) boosted quinella and trifecta payouts significantly.

2016 Melbourne Cup winner Almandin was unplaced after starting the Sydney Cup as the $3.60 favourite.

Money also went misplaced on stablemate Aloft, which was backed in from $15 to $7 throughout the week but the Macedon Lodge-trained import finished last in the big field.
