The Goodwood Tips & Betting Predictions

The Group 1 Goodwood runs this week at Morphettville in Australia and Vega Magic has captured all the headlines in the lead up.

Trained by Lindsay Park, the talented sprinter is on trial for a possible Everest spot in October and the betting suggests that the 12-time winner should do the business.

Despite running poorly in the Group 1 Darley Classic before heading out for a spell, Vega Magic looms as a big winning threat here and the winner of over $3.5 million has class on his side.

Having finished second in The Everest last year, Vega Magic could return to Randwick as one of the major hopes with a win in The Goodwood and the $2.50 is a fair price from bookmakers.

He has been primed for this run with a 1.75-length trial win at Tatura and given his first-up record of six starts for three wins and two placings, it's tough to see him finishing out of the money at the very least.

We're confident Vega Magic can run up to his best ability and although there might be better value in the market, many punters will be putting him first on their ticket.

The biggest threat to Vega Magic is Viddora, which was unfortunately scratched last time out.

A local chance for trainer Lloyd Kennewell, Viddora has come of age this season with a win in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot and a win in the Magic Millions Sprint at Gold Coast.

The five-year-old mare ran as a favourite in the N.R. Irwin Stakes on this track last start and although she was beaten, it came by just over a half-length and she didn't lose any admirers.

Coming back off an interrupted campaign is going to be the tough ask but she's a quality thoroughbred and punters are getting $9 on the second line of betting with bookmakers.

That's worth taking and she should pay around $2.50 for the place, which is great value.

Best Bet: Vega Magic to win @ $2.50
