The Preakness Stakes has a different look about it this year but there's still many nice types running.

Kentucky Derby winner Country House and relegated winner Maximum Security won't be running, likely due to the wet track conditions they endured at Churchill Downs.

The Preakness Stakes field contains some new thoroughbreds, which many punters haven't had a look at, but that adds to the intrigue of this race.

Can Improbable turn around its Derby disappointment? Or will a new story line be created at Pimlico this week?

Preakness Stakes Best Bet - Improbable @ 3.00

Improbable finished fourth in the Kentucky Derby, which was a disappointment given his odds, but he ran well enough for fourth.

If he's not too tired, the Bob Baffert-trained colt should be the one to beat in the 2019 Preakness Stakes. His form coming into the Derby included three wins and two second placings.

His best win came in the Group 1 Futurity at Los Alamitos before running second behind Long Range Teddy and Omaha Beach.

He travelled wide throughout in the Derby and wasn't given the best ride. Consider his chances here in the smaller field, which will be a big help.

Preakness States Best Each Way - War Of Will @ 4.33

Mark E Casse lines up the son of Kentucky, which ran seventh in the Kentucky Derby and was unlucky not to finish closer.

He was one of the many horses taken out by Maximum Security and although we will never know what would have eventuated, bookmakers are keeping him safe in the market.

His form prior to the Derby was solid with three consecutive wins. He defeated Country House in the Grade 2 Risen Star but then ran down the track in the Louisiana Derby.

Plenty of money coming for War Of Will so consider as a winning chance.

Preakness Stakes Best Roughie - Alwaysmining @ 8.00

Without big race form, many bettors might overlook the chances of Alwaysmining but he's a professional winner.

The gelding enters the Preakness Stakes with six consecutive wins and although they've been in much easier company, his chances should be considered here.

His breeding has good lines and the smaller field and extra distance could bring him right into contention.

Chance at the each-way odds.
