Warrnambool Carnival Tips For Tuesday

A revised Warrnambool Carnival for 2020 sees the traditional three day period now condensed to a two day event with the running of the famous Grand Annual Steeplechase headlining the Tuesday program which consists entirely of jumps races over the eight race card.

There's no rain on the radar presently for day one from the The 'Bool with the track currently in the Soft 7 range and the rail is in the true position.

Race 7 No. 5 Ablaze

This ex-Kiwi has been a revelation for the Maher & Eustace stable since crossing the ditch and debuting for the new yard in style with a fifteen length hurdle win at Coleraine in August 2019.

He followed that with a victory in the JJ Houlahan Hurdle towards the end of the jumping season before continuing that consistency over the flat which culminated in taking out the 4600m Jericho in December.
Ablaze is now a short favourite for the Grand Annual Steeplechase with a four and a half length Steeple win here on March 27 and now comes back to 66kg for this feature.

It'll be fascinating to see what the betting does late with this gelding and popular jumps veterans in Gold Medals (2018 Grand Annual winner) and Zed Em (2019 Grand Annual winner) who should both have their fair share of support.

Race 6 No. 2 Slowpoke Rodriguez

Patrick Payne prepares this nine-year-old for a Brierly Steeplechase tilt with a solid grounding of three flat runs in readiness for this target assignment.
A mostly consistent jumper, he does appear better suited to the 3450m nature of this event in comparison to the 4000m plus staying journeys he was attempting in 2019.

Slowpoke Rodriguez has just been there to go around quietly in two jumps trials either side of his race day outings this time in where he's got home for three midfield finishes and they've all suggested that he's returned in good order.

With The Dominator and Excellent Rhythm likely to set a genuine temp up front, that should only suit Slowpoke Rodriguez who can chime in at business end of proceedings as the best bet at Warrnambool on Grand Annual Steeplechase Day.

Grand Annual Steeplechase Day Value Bet

Race 4 No. 1 Flying Agent

We're looking for some value on Grand Annual Steeplechase Day in the form of this gelding who had his first jumping campaign in 2019.

After a string of consistent jumping efforts throughout winter last year, this seven-year-old broke through for a much deserved maiden hurdle victory at Ballarat in August.

Whilst he'd ideally like this Warrnambool circuit to be in the heavy range, Flying Agent has been ticking over fairly in two flat racing outings and the two hurdle trials have strong.

The last of those hit-outs was on April 28 when finishing just off Runaway who's won his first two hurdle attempts by twenty two lengths combined and that galloper is a short-priced favourite in the Galleywood Hurdle later in this Grand Annual Steeplechase card.
