Austria vs Finland Preview
Finland had a disappointing run in the Czech Hockey Games earlier this month. Austria’s form hasn’t been ideal either, but I don’t see them losing this match by more than two goals. In fact, they defeated Finland 3-2 in last year’s World Championship.

Austria Form
Austria played a series of friendly matches in April to prepare for the World Championship 2025, but the results were largely underwhelming.
Their only win in nine games came in mid-April against the Czech Republic (4-3 in overtime). Since then, they’ve lost three in a row—to Germany (3-2 and 5-0) and to Canada (5-1).
Austria failed to reach the quarterfinals in the 2024 World Championship, finishing 5th in Group A with seven points from two wins and five losses.
Finland Form
Finland were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the 2024 World Championship, losing 2-1 in overtime to Sweden. This year, they are considered the 6th-favorite to win the tournament.
They played four friendlies against Sweden in late April, losing the first match 2-1 before bouncing back with three consecutive wins (2-0, 5-0, and 3-0).
However, their performance in the Czech Hockey Games earlier this month was poor, suffering defeats to the Czech Republic (4-2), Switzerland (8-2), and Sweden (6-2).
Eeli Tolvanen, Teuvo Teravainen, and Juuso Parssinen headline Finland’s roster for the upcoming tournament.
Verdict
Both teams have shown poor form in recent weeks. Austria pushed Finland hard in last year’s World Championship, winning 3-2, so I’m backing the Austrians to cover the +2.5 handicap on Friday.
