Czech Republic vs Kazakhstan Preview

Kazakhstan are having a disappointing run so far, and I don’t see them stopping the Czechs from claiming another convincing victory. I’m backing the reigning world champions to cover a –3.5 handicap today in Herning.

Czech Republic Form

Czech Republic are enjoying a great run at the World Ice Hockey Championship 2025, collecting 11 out of a possible 12 points and sitting 2nd in Group B.

They opened with a thrilling 4-4 draw against Switzerland, eventually winning in overtime. Roman Cervenka led the way with two assists and the game-winner, while David Pastrnak also contributed two assists.

In Round 2, they edged out Norway 2-1 with second-period goals from Jakub Flek and Pastrnak.

Their most recent outing saw them dismantle Denmark 7-2, with both Pastrnak and Lukas Sedlak recording three-point games.

Two days ago, the Czechs demolished Hungary 6-1, Pastrnak stealing the spotlight again with two goals and an assist.

Kazakhstan Form

Kazakhstan’s chances of reaching the quarterfinals are minimal at this point, as they sit 7th with just three points from four matches.

They pulled off an early upset by beating Norway 2-1 in their opener, with Roman Starchenko and Vladimir Volkov getting on the scoresheet.

In their second match, they were heavy underdogs against Germany. Despite taking an early lead through Nikita Mikhailis, they ultimately fell 4-1.

They then lost 4-2 to relegation rivals Hungary, followed by a convincing 5-1 defeat to co-hosts Denmark.
