Germany head to the Ice Hockey World Championship looking to at least make the knockout stage once again.

They enjoyed a successful group campaign a year ago that saw them win five of their seven games, with their only losses coming to the United States and Sweden.

The Germans bowed out in the quarter-finals though, as they were beaten by eventual finalists Switzerland, 3-1.

Since exiting last year’s tournament they have been on a mixed run of form and they go into this competition having lost their previous outing.

Germany were beaten 5-2 by the United States when they faced off in an exhibition game earlier this month.

Hungary Form

Hungary are returning to the top table of international ice hockey following a one-year absence.

Their last appearance in the Ice Hockey World Championship was in 2023 when they fell at the first hurdle.

The Hungarians won just one of their seven group games, upsetting France 3-2 in overtime, and that resulted in their relegation.

They enter this year’s tournament having lost back-to-back exhibition games earlier this month.

Hungary fell to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Slovenia, before being shut out in a 6-0 defeat to one of the favourites to win it all, Canada.
