Sweden vs Finland Predictions

Sweden’s performances in the group stage were impressive and I don’t see inconsistent Finland causing an upset here.

  • Finland Form

  • Sweden have won 9 of their last 10 matches.
  • Finland have lost 3 of their last 4 matches.

Head to Head

Finland have a 51-50 advantage against Sweden with 2 draws in 103 matches.

They last met earlier this month, the game being won by Finland 4-3 in overtime/

Sweden Form

Sweden are the only team in the tournament to collect the maximum of 21 points in the group stages. They’ve done it with an impressive goal difference of 35-9.

The Swedes wrapped up the first phase with a commanding 6-1 victory against another quarterfinal participant Slovakia.

They were also victorious against France 3-1, Latvia 7-2, Kazakhstan 3-1, Germany 6-1, Poland 5-1 and USA 5-2.

Erik Karlsson and Andre Burakovsky were the top contributors so far, ending the group phase with 10 points each.

Finland Form

Finland had a disappointing group stage, ending it in 4th place in Group A behind Czech Republic, Switzerland and Canada with a score of three victories and four defeats.

They wrapped up the first phase with a poor performance and a 3-1 loss to Switzerland. One round before that, the Finns dispatched Denmark 3-1 in a mini-Scandinavian derby to end a two-game losing streak (Canada & Austria).

Finland started the tournament with a narrow 1-0 defeat against the Czech Republic but had no trouble beating underdogs Great Britain 8-0 and Norway 4-1.

Oliver Kapanen has been in red-hot form so far, topping Finland’s charts with six goals.

Verdict

Finland barely made it to the quarterfinals, losing three of their last four games. Sweden haven’t dropped a single point so far so I will back them to win the Scandinavian clash.
