Carolina Hurricanes at Boston Bruins Game 2 Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

After blowing out the Hurricanes in Game 1 of this NHL Eastern Conference Finals series I have to back the Bruins at TD Garden to take a 2-0 series lead over the Carolina Hurricanes at -155. Boston has won their last four games.

Carolina Hurricanes Form & Team News

The Hurricanes lost 5-2 to the Bruins in Game 1 of this NHL series, which snapped their six-game winning streak. They had only given up five goals in winning four in a row before giving up five goals in the Game 1 loss.

To say the Hurricanes fell apart in the 3rd period of Game 1 would be an understatement. They had a 2-1 entering the final frame, but were outscored 4-0 in the 3rd.

Petr Mrazek was less than stellar in between the pipes giving up four goals on only 27 shots. He gave up three goals in his lone regular season start against the Bruins but in the 5-3 Carolina win he got a lot of help from the offense, which was not the case in the Game 1 loss.

Carolina head coach Rod Brind'Amour needs his team to shore up their defense in this Game 2, but will that happen? I think that is unlikely, as the Bruins are flying high on the attack netting 16 goals in their last four games.

Boston Bruins Form & Team News

In the Game 1 win Boston had balance with five players with a goal and six players had at least one assist. Marcus Johansson and Patrice Bergeron each scored on a power play 28 seconds apart early in the 3rd period giving the Bruins the lead, which they would not relinquish.

Tuukka Rask stopped 29 of the 31 shots he faced and came up big in the 3rd period blanking the Hurricanes. He should have another solid effort in the pipes in Game 2, as he has only given up two goals in his last two starts.

Boston has been winning with balance and head coach Bruce Cassidy will for that continue in Game 2. That should happen, as the Bruins have outscored their opponents 16-6 in their four-game winning streak.

The Bruins have won four in a row, five in a row over the Hurricanes, and have won their last six NHL Eastern Conference Finals games. Yeah, I am backing them to stay hot and take Game 2 at -155.

I am also favoring the over in this game with the total set at 5.5 goals. In the last four games between these teams in Boston the total has gone over every time.

Carolina Hurricanes at Boston Bruins Match Up

The Hurricanes need their defense to get it done in Game 2 after falling apart in the 3rd period of Game 1.

The Bruins will look to keep up their solid play on both sides of the ice, which they have gotten in winning four in a row.

Carolina Hurricanes at Boston Bruins Key Statistics

  • Carolina Hurricanes are 3-7 in their last 10 games as a road underdog.
  • Carolina Hurricanes are 0-5 in their last 5 Conference Finals games.
  • Boston Bruins are 4-0 in their last 4 games.
